cruising down the freeway the other night, the wife and i saw an unfamiliar vehicle… from behind we thought it was a 3 wheeled motorcycle, but the driver wasnt wearing a helmet, as we approached wee noticed it wasnt a bike at all… this driver was sitting on a metal frame, straddling a transmission in what appeared to be a a custom frame carrying a car engine. is this just some bizarre custom vehicle or is there a name for this sort of thing?
Was it actually a 3-wheel vehicle, and if so, did it have 2 front wheels or 2 rear wheels?
A Venture One?
Was it a… firetruck ?
it actually had 3 wheels, 2 in the back 1 up front, michigan tags if that helps you custom car guys out there.

It sounds like it was a homebuilt trike.
Sounds like it could be the guts of a http://www.bosshoss.net/view_bike.asp?x=BHC9ZZ4 Boss Hoss
Probably wasn’t one of these, but I wanted to link that pic.
Seconded. These are not too uncommon.
What the heck WAS that?
I think I want one!
It’s an old Messerschmidt two seater. My Dad was telling me about these the other day – I never even new they existed. It was built sort of like a land plane, with a front and back seat and apparently three wheels. Some of them still exist, my Dad mentioned it because he saw one driving down the road recently.
My friend God of Citroens has driven a Messerschmidt. He says it was terrifying; the steering is so quick that the slightest twitch sents you swerving across the road. It felt like a really bad go-kart.
