So, what's cool in Tempe?

My fiance and I are considering moving to Tempe from the Bay Area. We’re driving out over the 4th of July long weekend, so we should have a pretty solid two days to looks around. Anything in particular to recommend seeing while we’re there? What’s the area right around the university like? Where’s the best place to live for two Bay Area transplants?

It is indeed nice.

The coolest place is the downtown area.

I live just next to Tempe, south of Scottsdale, and I would be glad to have more board buddies near.

I also have the experience of moving from the Bay area. The best place to live? If you like to hang around with a young crowd, live as close to the university or downtown as possible.

Feel free to contact me for more local information, and to be your guide when you arrive in July.

Thanks. I just may take you up on that. We’ve already arranged to speak with a realtor, who’ll hopefully be able to show us around some. (I’m hoping to find a place within a few blocks of the university, while the fiancee is hoping for something a bit more rural.)

Cute site, by the way, but many of those tract house shots remind me a bit too much of the suburban hellscape I’d like to avoid. I’ve been surprised at how few arial shots there are of either Phoenix or Tempe. Odd.

Aaah Tempe,
I lived there for 5.5 years and I really enjoyed it. I was a little bummed towards the end though as it began to slowly turn into a Scottsdale lite, with lot’s of chains and over commercialization.
Really nice place though, art museum, big football stadium, plenty of nice non chaion restaurants around, Flagstaff & Sedona just north, which includes skiing in winter, lots of young people (although mill ave can get really loaded with teenagers on Fri & Sat), and you’re close to Phx, Scottsdale and can drive to Tuscon, LA and Vegas if you feel like it.
Best place for casual food and beer - Four Peaks Brewing Company.
