In a couple of weeks, he’s going to make a guest appearance on Family Guy as Hank Hill.
IDMB lists something called Trophy Husbands as being in development. It gives no details, but I’m guessing that will be his next movie.
I don’t know what he’ll do with the rest of his career, but I’d be happy if he did nothing but keep making movies. He has a unique voice and specific kind of satirical insight into (and empathy for) ordinary people that nobody else has. Not Hollywood “ordinary people,” but actual, real world, recognizable people. It’s kind of ironic, but I think that Hank Hill was one of the most realistic sitcom characters in TV history, even though he was a cartoon.
Judge also creates some of the most quotable dialogue this side of The Big Lebowski.
Ironic, because it’s nickname was The Goode Family. They were the anti Hills- uber liberals and activists, and also the anti KotH in that they were cancelled after 4 episodes.
I actually liked Idiocracy but it flopped at the box office. I don’t think Office Space was super popular in initial release but it’s become such a cult classic since he’s probably good for another movie deal at some point.
Extract wasn’t that bad either. Not Judge’s best (I’ve only seen it once, though, and it seems like his movies get better after repeated viewings), but watchable, agreeable enough entertainment. It’s still miles better than the latest Gerard Butler rom-com, and it has one of the best band names ever in it.
The Goode Family was terrible. I think it’s the only thing Judge has done that I didn’t like at all.
The Goode Family wasn’t very good, I agree, but neither was KOTH at the beginning IMHO. Anybody know if KOTH had better ratings than TGF in it’s 1st 4 episodes?
That’s a lifestyle I not only completely respect but greatly covet. Give me a comfortable 6 figure per year lifestyle and I’m not even going to butter my own toast if I don’t feel like it.
I rented it not expecting anything special (and actually not even noticing that it was Mike Judge’s handiwork, I just liked the box art* and logline), and I was pleasantly surprised by what a marvelously funny film it was.
*Not the same box art as in that Wiki link… it was the picture seen here on Netflix. I guess technically a poster.
