So, what's the verdict on cell phones?

A couple years ago, when cell phones first really hit, I remember a big debate about tumors and brain cancer and growing tails and all sorts of bad stuff that could result from using them. Then everybody got a cell phone, the cell phone industry boomed, and everyone seemed to forget the controversy.

Was anything ever done to fix these problems? I know they now have a cord with an earphone so you don’t need the phone against your head, but I’ve been told that’s just as bad or worse.

And just how much exposure is needed to have any serious stuff happen from using a cell phone?

(I finally caved in and bought one after spending 2 months hopping around New York, crashing with friends, looking for an apartment.)

See this Junk Science article. I have yet to see a single study that offers good evidence that cell phones are dangerous in this way.

Of course, they are dangerous in other ways. You can drive off the road while talking on one. You can be run over by someone talking on one. You can be murdered by someone who wants to steal one. You can be murdered by someone who doesn’t want you to talk on one. The list goes on.

I agree with bibliophage.

In fact, the only reason the subject still comes up often is becasue fraudulent peddlers selling “protective” devices keep insisting that EMFs cause cancer and many MANY other ailments. Of course, the only way to protect yourself is to buy one of their devices. They will cite “studies” and quote “facts” buy the fact still remails that there is no conclusive proof that EMFs are harmful to humans.

See this link, and click on the “Tokens” section for a glimpse into idiocy. Everything that they sell is quackery.
