This being teh PIT and all I can come out and say:
I’m in total agreement with you on this. And on the Smiths. I used to think the whole “gloom rock” millieu was useless, until I discovered Andy Partridge.
Yeah! And do the Proclaimers edge out Oasis by two bad haircuts and the best use of “heaver” in a love song?
I’m in shock. I was of the opinion that nobody liked Oasis (even the members of the band) since 1995. I certainly liked for about a week and a half after their first album came out. Have they even had a new album out in the last two years?
I also like Radiohead because they are prolific (new album out in spring!) Half of the Alanis, Fiona, Oasis, shit thankfully is one album and run. I can be thankful that most of my favorites are very prolific (and listenable) – Stereolab (12 releases since 1992), Pavement, Radiohead, Massive Attack, Tricky, etc.
Has anybody seen “Meeting People is Easy”? If you love “OK Computer”, you should check it out and see the really depressing side of being a rock star. Not that I would expect roses and kisses from Radiohead, though…
Do the USA copies of Kid A have the notorious second booklet that the UK first pressing did?
I think with OK Computer you have to just say “3rd album”
Look at all the 3rd albums. London Calling, The Queen is Dead, the Manic Street Preachers’ The Holy Bible [awesome!], Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness…It;s a defining point for most of the great bands. and what did Oasis produce? Be Here Now [ack!]
OK! OK! So it seems that most, if not all, of you don’t like Oasis. Well I do. I think that they’re a fine band that has produced numerous works of beauty (including Be Here Now). And the way that they can incorporate the ugliness and filthiness of life into their works of beauty remains unmatched by anyone. So, in my humble opinion, comparing The Beatles to Oasis artificially elevates The Beatles to a level that they never were able to achieve. And if aliens invaded the earth and told me that they would destroy all the music ever produced, except 20 CDs of my choosing, I’d put an Oasis album on the “in” list. And I’m pretty sure that I wouldn’t include anything by The Beatles. So there!
