So, what's your first name?

Who sez “Larry” is dorky? I’ve been a Larry (not Lawrence) for over sixty years and I’m not dor. . .um . . . never mind…

Hello, my name is Anonymous… im pretty famous, but i dont like to gloat…

Hi. My name is Kristen. If I had been a boy, it would have been Kristoffer. My mom was a huge Kris Kristofferson fan.

When I was still a baby, my family took to calling me Nikki, a diminutive of my middle name.

When I was about 15, I rearranged the letters and became Kniki.

  1. Because it was unique, and being unique is very important when you’re 15.
  2. So I could sign things “K. [LastName]” and have it stand for my real name or my nickname.
  3. Because the name Opal, just didn’t suit me. (Yes, I know: I suck.)

When I started college, I started going by Kristen. I met a lot of new people in a short period of time, and it seemed easier to tell everyone my given name and just leave it at that.

I went through a brief phase in my early 20s where I signed emails with “Xen”. “X-tina” Aguilera, eat your heart out!

Nowadays, my family and friends from high school still call me Kniki. Everyone else calls me Kristen or Kitt. But never call me Kris. That’s my brother.

Topaz.

Nicholas.

I’m Jessica.

Jonathan, though I go by Jon. But NOT Johnathan, Jonathon, or John. Or anything else, for that matter.

Clayton. Heh.

Tyler.

I don’t think people really feel they know me, but there ya go.

It’s pronounce Sha Von isn’t it? That’s the way Siobhan on Ryan’s Hope was pronounced.

Scott…
Although I am not Scottish, nor do I have a particular interest in sheep.

and I have spent most of my life having to spell it for people and then explain why it’s spelled that way, or correcting the pronunciation and explaining why it’s pronounced that way…Just one of the joys of being born of Irish parents.

I’m more of a Shavawn than a Sha Von, but that’s just what I’m used to. You think of a way of saying it, I bet I have been called it. It doesn’t seem to be as uncommon as it used to be when I was little but I still find it really strange to hear my name spoken in relation to someone else.
