So where are you on the political compass?

Left/Right -3

Authoritarian / Libertarian -7

Not bad for a Yank, I think.

-1.43/-6.13
Another Simon Hughes checking in. For us non-Brits… who is that guy??

Sorry Sir Doris, just noticed your post… :o

Economic Left/Right: 0.41
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -5.71

And another latent Lib Dem checking in (stuck between Hughes and Kennedy). Which is perfectly fine by me.

The Lib Dems are notable for their refreshingly honest and positive approach to General Elections, in which they say "We will raise taxes by X percent, which will raise X amount of pounds, which will be spent on improving the NHS/education/the crappy railways/etc. Which is probably why they never win. John Cleese has done ads for them.

Alas, I’m not allowed to vote in the UK (yet…). But for some reason I was allowed to vote in the London mayoral election, and duly cast my vote for Red Ken. Anyone who irritates other politicians that much is worth giving a chance…

Economic Left/Right: -2.04
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -6.39
so i am a lefty libertarian, which places me in between Livingstone and Hughes.

Economic Left/Right: -5.10
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -7.07

Gandhi’s quadrant.

I’m a little surprised I was more lib than lefty. I guess it was all that sexual/social libertarianism, as opposed to neo-liberalism.

Economic Left/Right: 4.69
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -0.79

Highest A/L score yet, I notice. And who’s this Friendman character?

Economic Left/Right: 7.76
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -3.56
As expected for an Objectivist, this puts me fairly close to Friedman. Still, I must agree that this test did indeed present quite a few false dichotomies, but what can you expect for free?

I came out so close to dead center that it’s scary!

Economic Left/Right: 1.02
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -0.79

Yea! - Unless I missed someone (I’m sorry if I did) I’m the closest to center on the entire board!!!
Yea!

I scored Left/Right: -4.1
Lib/Author: -7.4

No real surprise here if you have read my posts in Great Debates but I, like matt_mcl, was a bit surprised not to be more left. But, like they say, this is normalized more toward British than American political standards.

Economic Left/Right: 0.41
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -6.70

Never before have I come in anywhere on the right. This is scary. But too many of the questions were iffy…

I did love the “Wars and social chaos may well be ended by a catastrophic flood or earthquake,” question. To which I needed to answer “agree.” Because if the flood or earthquake is catastrophic enough - there won’t be any people for wars or social chaos. I had no idea what the point of the question was.

Since it was in the religion section, I’m guessing it was about Armageddon.

Just to clarify, I should have noted that I really wanted that to note that I thought that finding implied either one of a few totally different ideas, being a) Only Dopers with negative authoritarianism/libertarianism scores felt comfortable enough to post here or b) The test is somehow skewed or even c) Hello Opal!

Those are just my ideas, however, and it could well be that people wanting to be politicians should not be allowed.

P.

Economic Left/Right: -2.24
Authoritarian/Libertarian: -4.24

Just about where I thought I’d be…

Remember the presidential preference selector, from the last US election? I matched up closest to the Socialist candidate.

R/L: -0.20
A/L: -6.18

So another Liberal Democrat here. Mine’s a bit high I think, since I admitted that Armageddon could happen.

The Authoritarian politicos are frieghtening, however. I wonder how US politicians would do on this?

L/R - 2.04
Auth - -4.79

About where I thought I would be.

Economic left/right: -1.22
Authoritarian/libertarian: -7.38

More libertarian and further right than I would have expected, but mark me down as yet another Simon Hughes clone.

Proudly:

Left: -5.92
Libertarian: -6.91

Well, in the Tone Benn zone there. Not surprising, but I am well pleased with this result.
