So where do you depart on typical politcal party stances that you normally vote with?

I’m pretty centrist so I’m not sure if I fit one of the parties. I consider myself a Massachusetts Republican (or, when I lived there, a Utah Democrat; actually, the area I lived in was so conservative I was really a Utah leftist guerrilla). I tend to agree with conservatives/libertarians on economic matters and liberals/libertarians on social matters.

I’m opposed to psychiatric forced treatment, which in my political opinion means opposition to anything less than fully informed consent; misleading characterizations of psychiatric medications that made them sound like perfect magic bullets that fix psychiatric conditions with no worrisome side effects would contradict the spirit of fully informed consent.

The Democratic Party has embraced the entire psychiatric Kool-Aid pitcher and is rather aggressively in favor of reaching out to every corner in which some untreated mentally ill person might be rounded up and put on psych meds, voluntariliy or otherwise. Including your kids in school.

The Republican Party, interestingly enough, has more of an attitude of “your home is your castle and no one should be able to force you to abide by what public officials think is in your best interest” hence as long as you aren’t breaking any laws (and aren’t destitute and homeless or otherwise reliant on public accommodatations) you should have the right to decide for yourself, and for your kids.

I’m not fond of the blind spot about poor and homeless etc people, who in my opinion haven’t forfeited their right to make their own decisions, but overall the Republican Party’s attitude is a lot more to my liking here.
