So with Batman officially a fugitive at the end of The Dark Knight, I think Batman 3 would be the perfect time to introduce Bane. After Batman evades capture for who knows how long, some of the more corrupt members of the Gotham PD turn to someone a little more unorthadox to find him.
Meanwhile, Batman is looking into a new mobster in town who calls himself The Penguin.
[Or alternately, Batman begins looking for Two-Face, who did not die at the end of The Dark Knight and is currently up to no good.
I think it will be Catwoman, and I hope they take some chances; like, she should be old and bitter, a crazy cat lady who smells like pee and smokes too much. Kathy Bates, Annette Benning. Not Keira Knightley. If they do have to go with slinky instead of nasty, I hope they us Asia Argento or Famke Janssen.
I think they did 3 this time & will do a bunch next time.
Scarecrow will appear again, clearly (I think) they would have brought Joker back - but the switch at this point won’t be like the Holmes-Maggie switch. IRL the idea of another actor playing him has to scare the crap out of them.
My WAG is a Bane appearance too - as Badguy No.2- he is “ethnic” and plays well on the screen. Clayface could show in this role too but it may be too much like Sandman in Spiderman 3.
They will need someone over the top as the main guy to fill the role Joker did though - maybe Penguin or Catwoman? I think it will depend on who they get to play the Villian
Since Rachel is dead, I’m absolutely convinced that Bruce Wayne is going to get a new “love interest”–Selina Kyle. I don’t know if Catwoman will be the main villain (like Ra’s Al Ghul or the Joker) but I’m willing to bet that she’ll be involved. Given how close Nolan ties Batman to the villains (the first one is his mentor, the second one is basically Batman’s alter-ego) I don’t think he can resist the tension and the darkness possible with the Bruce/Selina, Batman/Catwoman relationships.
Catwoman’s a good bet, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bane as well. But frankly I don’t see how they can leave the Joker out of future movies. At some point, they’re going to have to take a huge risk on another actor to play the Joker to resolve his character.
Same here. I’m also betting on Harlequin (what better time than right after the Joker is captured?) and Poison Ivy (because she makes such a great team with Harley).
Wow, I didn’t think they’d introduce Catwoman but now that you put it that way I bet you’re exactly right.
They’re really in a pickle regarding the Joker. Do they get a guy who looks like Heath, and can channel him, and put him in the same makeup? No. People would refuse to accept it. Do they get a new actor to create a new Joker? No, people would call it disrespectful.
Re: Two Face: I wasn’t expecting him to turn until the end of the movie, so I thought he for sure he’d be the villain in the 3rd one, but he did die, didn’t he? Wasn’t his corpse lying next to Batman and Gordon when they had their little talk at the end, and didn’t Gordon speak at his funeral?
From the throwaway “safe from cats” line I hope it will be Catwoman.
I’d like it if they showed that the current problems, shown in Dark Knight, are the result of the League of Shadows working behind the scenes, with Joker as their unknowing front man. Catwoman would be the next big thing to destabilize Gotham. This would split Batman’s focus 3 ways: Batman chasing Catwoman; Batman chasing Two Face; and Bruce chasing Selina.
I’m not sure if he’s dead or not. I keep thinking of that scene where Batman was dangling the mobster off a fire escape, and the mobster said, “A fall from this distance wouldn’t kill me.” It didn’t look like Batman and Dent fell all that much further. On the other hand, having a raving and gibbering Harvey Dent alive would undercut Batman’s heroic sacrifice at the end of the movie. It’s possible that they stashed him in a private room at Arkham or something, but that doesn’t seem like a workable long-term solution: sooner or later, someone’s going to spill the beans on Arkham’s second highest profile inmate, and that’ll screw up everything even worse than just telling people that Dent went psycho in the first place.
Still, I can’t help but think that he’ll still be alive somehow. Not sure how they’ll do it, but he’s too compelling a character, with too much history with Bruce and Batman, to kill off that quickly.
I posted earlier but in the wrong thread that I saw Angelina Jolie suggested for catwoman. While I think that’s perfect casting, I think her identity as “Angelina Jolie” may be too strong.
I agree that killing off Two-Face so early was a big mistake (and Eckhart was really good in the role). Of course, they thought Heath Ledger would be around. Sad.
I think Cillian Murphy is another fantastic actor and wouldn’t mind seeing Scarecrow again.
There was something distracting going on during this part but - was that or wasn’t that Scarecrow in the parking garage near the beginning of the movie? What was up with that?
Why would they show a major character like that for only a few seconds? It was weird enough that, through the distraction, I thought he was an imposter like the fake batman (batmen?)
Catwoman seems like a good guess from the set-up and the throwaway “cats” line involving the Batsuit. However, I’d really like to see The Riddler show up. Mostly because it’s hard not to imagine a campy Riddler so I’d really like to see what Nolan does with it. I think I read somewhere that Nolan’s planning to stay away from the Penguin for certain, but I can’t remember if I really read it or it’s just me being hopeful.
