I was going to say a more realistic depiction of the Penguin, but Wikipedia had this to say:
That, in theory, eliminates Catwoman, Bane, the Riddler, the Penguin and a few others as well. Dang it.
I don’t think that Harvey Dent died. He was definitely breathing, and I’m not sure if Gordon was speaking at Dent’s funeral, it may have just been a ceremony to acknowledge his works before his injury.
If Dent is not dead, I would be very disappointed. It would negate much of the impact of the film’s poignant ending.
Plus, it would smack too much of the comic cliche of “coming back from the dead.”
Not to worry, we still have the 10-eyed man!
My thought would be to have the Scarecrow become the leader of Gotham’s underworld. Or so it appears. Actually, he’s just taking orders from Dr. H. Quinn. She thinks she’s running things, but she doesn’t realize that she’s being manipulated by one of her patients in Arkham. For the next 2 or 3 movies, we never see the Joker’s face, just the back of his head, like Blofeld in the early James Bond films.
I think you could do the Riddler. He commits crimes, then sends taunting notes to the police. The Zodiac killer actually did that, in the real world. Someone in another thread thought that the news anchor played by Anthony Michael Hall might eventually become the Riddler. I could see that happening. He could start out as a zealous investigative journalist. He gradually starts cutting ethical corners in order to get big scoops. He tries to understand the gangster, and ends up sympathizing with them, even helping them. After being professionally disgraced, a la Dan Rather, he ends up working for them. Eric Roberts, as Boss Maroni, is a John Gotti-style figure, always in the media, but never quite convicted.
yeah but … Catwoman was sorta memorably portrayed by M. Pfeiffer and Penguin by Danny DeVito both B listers at the time. OTOH Joker and Two-Face were a little more memorably portrayed by an A lister (Nicholson) and an “A-/B+” lister (TL Jones)…
So I can’t really buy into that quote all that much as he has already followed the tougher acts.
Besides who would that leave ? ClockKing, ClayFace, ManBat, Harley, Croc, Blackmask (et al) & Scarface? I can’t think of any other major villains from the comics that might make it to the screen if you want people to have heard of them & even these aren’t (really) the A-team to follow-up with
Danny Devito and Tommy Lee Jones are very much A-listers and have been for a long time.
Michelle Pfeiffer was an A-lister at the time. I dunno about now.
Had to check Bane’s Wikipedia article to figure out what you were talking about. I had no idea he was in Batman and Robin. I never saw that one. I’ve got to get around to watching it one day.
For the sake of your sanity, I beg you, don’t.
Three words: Bat Credit Card.
Do yourself a favor and watch it with The Rifftrax. It’s the only way to get through it.
No, do yourself a favor and pour acid in your eyes. It’s less painful.
No! Then some doctor might wire his optic nerves to his fingers, and we all know how that would turn out.
Batman and Robin features Alicia Silverstone in a full rubber suit and it still is unwatchable.
Why didn’t her suit have nipples?
They ran out of rubber after covering up her enormous backside.
Which really begs the question, WHY would you want to cover that backside up?
Because, I’m convinced, Joel Shumacher not only didn’t know how to direct “sexy” female characters, he had, in fact, never even met a woman before in his life.
All his efforts at such in the Batman movies were, in all likelihood, taken from studying Johnson-era Civil Defense manuals designed to instruct new filmmakers in rebuilding the movie industry after an Atomic War.
I’m waiting for Bat-Mite to appear.
I’d prefer there not be any sequels to TDK. No sequel will ever measure up.
That said, while I like the idea of a Batman vs. Superman movie, I imagine they would try to get Brandon Routh to play Superman again, and he was boring as hell and lacked Superman presence. So screw that. Also, the dark, serious tone of TDK is one of my favorite things about it, and if they came back with cartoonish villains and a silly love drama, it’d be unwatchable. I would prefer a lesser-known villain, one either already dark and totally evil, or one they can reinvent as such.
All I’m saying is you can’t get much darker than 10 eyes.
It’s fairly straightforward to me…
The Dark Knight Returns.
Adapt Miller’s work, with Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement after being hounded as a fugitive. He doesnt need to age that much… say, five years retirement. Some cops are glad to see him back, some aren’t. The Joker, catatonic since his dissaperance, now springs to life again, breaks out an dgoes nuts. Harvey dent, face now grafted back on (although not perfectly… he still looks very scarred) is still nuts even with his face back. And Robin… well, anyone thinking that Jim Gordons son isn’t being groomed for the Boy Wonder? It’s fairly obvious to me.
All that leaves is Superman to complete the arc… ok, ditch the Man of Steel, and bring in Bane, as a merc or bounty hunter hired to capture Batman. Shit, chuck Selina Kyle in there too, while we’re at it.
