So why doesn't coke eat through the cans

So why? I suppose there must be some coating on the inside of the can, but I’ve never heard of anyone mention it. I once dropped some 50% conc. HCl into a can to see how long it took to eat through, and it was surprisingly long, about 10 minutes maybe, IIRC. So there must be a coating. But you never hear about it. If so what kind of plastic (I assume plastic) is it? My own feeling is that we probably have more to fear from plasticizers than we do from the dubious aluminum/Alzheimers connection.

Just guessing that although Coke may be more acidic than ketchup, it’s more dilute.

Perhaps you should read this thread:
Why doesn’t Coke dissolve the aluminum can?

It includes a link to a description of how aluminum cans are made. Yes, there’s a lining.
