So why was Ammonius Saccus banned?

It’s not fair, but people should be aware that it does and will happen.

And it’s one of the reasons I as an atheist stand up against these clowns. They don’t represent me. If I don’t make that clear, no one will.

ID “these clowns” please? Detail what if anything you share and don’t share with them, please? Be as specific as possible.

You and badchad.

And as every horror aficionado knows, clowns suck.

Tell you what - I’ll agree to take badchad if they agree to take every corrupt religious leader from primitive shamans who practiced human sacrifice to televangelists who practice relieving old people from the burden of their retirement money.

The civil rights movement had its share of loud-mouthed, abrasive rabble-rousers, too, but they got the job done. I have more respect for someone screaming at the top of their lungs for a cause I believe in than for someone kneeling down and fellating the cocks and assholes of liberal Christians to thank them for not treating us like their conservative brethren do.

Well, I may not have respect for those kneeling down to felate liberal believers, but I do have gratitude.

Do you really find that liberal Christians treat atheists the same as the fundamentalists do?

Do you have an example?

Oh Lord whom I do not believe in, grant me the patience to deal with those who attack my posts without reading them. Thank you Lord. Amen.

Pure poetry.

But how many of the loud-mouthed, abrasive civil-rights movement rabble-rousers hounded people who disagreed with them? For that matter where do you get off comparing Poly to racists? Screaming is one thing, stalking is another. And that is the part where you lose me. All badchad does is affirm the worst opinions people have of atheists.

I have more respect for someone with a viewpoint that differs from mine who can articulate it clearly and concisely without attacking other posters than for someone who’s only objective is to continually offend a particular poster.

I know what you mean. I have more respect for someone who cures cancer than I do for someone who beats crippled children. Did your bizarre analogy have a point to it?

Most of them, I expect. Why wouldn’t they ?

I didn’t make the comparison, but - however well meaning and pleasant a person he may be, he also serves a cause that’s at least as evil and destructive as racism.

I can see this is going to take some time.

Is there something I believe in that you also believe in, in regard to atheism/religion, or do I just plain suck in every one of my views across the board on this issue? Let’s stick to me for now. I can cover badchad, or he can , later. I don’t want to get you confused.

A separate question, for you think over: am I to take it that other atheists with whom I agree on most issues, such as **Der Trihs ** and Cisco (to name a couple) DO speak for you on atheism/religion?

That’s utter trash. There is a wide variety of people with religious faith. Polycarp is certainly not serving an evil or destructive cause. From his actions (his posts here), one can see that his cause is to be a good person and to treat other people well and kindly. What difference does it make that he ascribes his personal rationale for doing that to his faith in a deity? He could just as easily ascribe it to the IPU or to emanations from a polka-dot lamp shade. The point is that his actions are good and kindly.

Yes, there are those who ascribe their hateful actions to a deity. That does not mean that Polycarp is like them.

As far as I’m concerned, yes he is. Religon - ALL religion - is bad, in my view. Some kinds more than others, but no variety of religion is good.

He doesn’t need to be to do harm, if he aides their cause. Good people serving a bad cause can do plenty of harm.

Wow, I alway considered myself a pretty hardcore atheist, but PRR and BadChad almost makes we want to become a Christian, just to piss them off.
What a bunch of assholes.
You make us atheists look like fricking Jack Chick.

I get it now, Der Trihs. Polycarp is bad because he is good.

For the record, in that quote of mine regarding Badchad that was discussed earlier, I did mean GD originally. But I’m posting less on anything substantive these days, and thinking very carefully before I make any comments regarding religion whatsoever, because I do have a troll stalking me. Or what appears to me as a reasonable facsimile of same. And I’m not at all interested in tying my guts up in knots trying to deal with his fundamental dishonesty.

And you are entitled to your view. As am I, Badchad, Liberal, PRR, Shodan and everyone else. Freedom is a nice thing. So is tolerance. Look up the famous quote by Pastor Martin Heidegger, and let me know if you agree, please.

I hate to play PRR’s little “Oh, I’m so confused!” game, but quite frankly you and Badchad have set up a cute Catch-22 here. If I and other liberal Christians denounce fundamentalists and evangelicals for their abusive behavior and dishonesty towards their own doctrines, that’s a direct insult to Badchad’s sainted parents. If we do not, we’re caught by your remark above. There is a bit of a logical disconnect there.

Yes, and it’s of the “mote/beam” sort. If you want to examine various types of hypocrisy and sanctimoniousness in religion, look in the mirror before picking on your co-religionists who are simply more blatant and less intellectually capable than you. You do some of this, Polycarp, but the amount of self-examination you could do is almost limitless. There’s no need for you to take cheap shots at people whose belief systems are only a little bit more deeply flawed than your own, and to declare yourself far more enlightened than those poor slobs.

You’re free to play along and answer too: Would you prefer to see

a) More name calling, ad hominem attacks and abuse here
b) just name-calling, ad hominem attack and abuse on people you disagree with here
or
c) less name calling, ad hominem attacks and abuse here?

This isn’t a hard one to answer, although b) does leave you open to accusations of grotesque hypocrisy (of the kind you santimoniously deny) and a) and c) present other obvious problems for you.

You can always choose d), and not respond to this at all, of course. Don’t worry, if you choose not to respond, someone will come along and accuse me of silencing you.

Now I am lumped in with Polycarp and Liberal, which is all to the good.

And two trolls, which isn’t.

I gotta quit doing vanity searches. I’m all conflicted.

Regards,
Shodan
