I don’t think he was Catholic, or even any other kind of Christian.
Was he hunch-backed then? Because otherwise I have trouble figuring out why he went to Notre Dame to make his “statement.”
You know, I don’t really know what to do with that. I guess he felt very strongly about what other people do. He had the strength of his convictions? Protesting by killing yourself seems like a defeatist attitude, though - that’s one way to make sure you never have a say in anything again.
What is odd here is that a French woman, demonstrating in the capital of France, writes her message on her body in English! The former glory of the French language has been destroyed by those upstarts from Britain and America. If there is an afterlife, I would have no doubt that this aspect would particularly sadden the late M. Venner.

I don’t remember the canonical term for it, but it looks like Notre Dame will likely need to have a caremony for cleansing, or purifying the sanctuary or altar area.
Some years ago I remember a news story about a naked man who ran around in St. Patrick’s cathedral in New York City. A followup article had a photo of a bishop conducting a sanctification ritual, incense and all.
Probably it was just a matter of being old and tired. In his youth he fought to keep Algeria part of France and was a member of violent right wing organizations. A terrorist, basically.

I found an article from 1988 about the St.Patrick’s incident I remembered. I’d forgotten there had been killing there too.

I’m only concerned about one thing: whether the bullet or skull fragments flew off and damaged one of those gorgeous rose windows.

Heh - that reminds me of the thought I always have when I go into a Catholic church - just a passing thought about bursting into flames. Hasn’t happened yet, so fingers crossed. 
All those priests who fucked kids can take a valuable lesson from this guy, and if any do, his death won’t have been in vain.

I’m guessing he had more issues beyond not approving of same-sex marriage.
Maybe he was just showing how dangerous homosexuality is by shooting himself with a weapon contaminated with gay cooties.
I wonder if it was a Five Seven or a High Power? We have plenty of ballistic data on the latter, but this could provide some useful numbers if it was the former.
