So you can't wish death on someone in the pit...

If memory serves, that very point was made, complete with citation. I didn’t have a look at the link myself, so I don’t know if it’s completely accurate, but I would assume the PTB (Powers That Be) are having a look at what action will be recommended.

I missed the posts in question, so let me get this straight: someone out there actually seems to believe someone else should die for having banned them from an Internet message board?

If so, that so far beyond wack, man.

I still have the original two threads open since I didn’t bother to shut off my computer last night. Here’s what I think you’re thinking about:

And the people wondering if he can be found or not needn’t bother. Everything you do on the net is tracked and followed, and when you break the law ISPs or whoever are required to ignore privacy contracts and give info to the investigators. The equipment and programs required to make yourself totally invisible online usually aren’t in the hands of banned smacktards who post threats on messageboards while also telling the people running it that they’ve been here before.

You missed nothing of value, only a very ugly and disturbing tantrum.

That said, the posts in question (the poster had two posts to his name, BTW, each the OP of a threateningly-titled thread) did not make reference to a banning, or indeed, to any specific [perceived] offense. Your speculation may be well-founded, but it is still speculative.

If memory serves (I also saw the posts this morning, after locking but before deletion), he made a third post to one of those threads, stating that he had been previously banned by Lynn. Frankly, I can’t blame her.

Lynn,

I have always appreciated your hard work on this board. And hopefully our aghast replies to this latest idiot help outweigh his evilness, and that you we know we care for you.
/Shadez

Lyn, there are over 40,000 Dopers scattered throughout the world who are here for you at the “ping” of an email should you need any kind of help, IRL or in cyberspace … never forget that.

Ya need chocolate? Pick one of us at random …

Julie

That was VERY, VERY disturbing.

When I saw the first thread I was concerned that Lynn had taken a turn for the worse. While I was relieved to find that not to be the case, his threads were scary. While he probably doesn’t have the brains or ability to carry them through, I’d not take a chance on it.

I wish there had been better laws circa 1998 when I was getting some serious death threats from a guy I went out with in LA. He was there and I was in Oregon and at that time, he’d only have been prosecuted if all of it had happened in LA. I called the Glendale PD, and since I was in the next state, there was nothing they could do. I slept with a butcher’s knife by my bed for a couple of months.

The poster made two subsequent posts, one to each thread, in which it specifically mentioned having been banned, although not its original username.

Yes, and I’ve been repeatedly :smack: ing myself ever since. I clicked on the “View Forum Leaders” link, and not one of them had the lit-up checkmark to indicate that they were online. Maybe the feature wasn’t working. I was just thinking, “Where are the mods?! Tuba! Coldfire! Anybody! Get in here NOW!”

I was plenty scared, not just because of the nature of the posts, but because of…well, what Kaylasdad99 said in post #19. And some other worries, but I won’t state them, so as not to give anyone any ideas.

As far as Lynn really being in physical danger: well, I don’t believe for one second that the poster has a “team”, as he claimed in one thread. It might follow that he’s also not capable of carrying out the threats he made. But only a very disturbed individual would say what he said in a public forum.

I hope, for the sake of others, that the police have been to his house by now. I hope he’ll have to undergo court-ordered psychiatric treatment, and be prohibited from internet access for life. Whether or not he ever intended to follow through on his threats, he committed a (federal?) crime by stating them.

First, I want to thank everyone who has expressed support for me on the message board and by email. I appreciate it.

Second, I must admit that it’s sort of embarrassing. I obviously have a lowclass, low IQ stalker here. He can’t even spell my name right! Bodoni is spelled with two Os and one I, you idiot, not the other way around. I just hope that Mr. BigThreat hasn’t actually targeted some poor soul who happens to be named Lynn Bodini.

Third, I am not listed in public records as Lynn Bodoni. I’m listed in the tax records, Social Security, phone book, driver’s license, etc. as my real first name and my husband’s last name. Nobody calls me by my first name except for my parents. They know I prefer to be called Lynn but just habitually call me by my first name.

Fourth, I’ve received email death threats from this guy before. I put him in the same category as the street preachers we get around here now and then…they keep predicting that everyone is going to hell, but they’re just people who are either wound up too tightly or not wound up tightly enough.

As I said in the thread last night, just another Internet pussy who hides behind his computer and thinks putting bullshit like that on a message board makes him a big man. I can imagine this same person being bitch slapped often when he starts to mouth off to people.

I can also see how those two posts would unnerve someone who took it seriously and believed that such a person could track them down. They were obviously posted by someone with serious issues.

Glad you’re okay, Lynn! But…

See, that worries me. Now, I’m not asking a mod to share any privileged info with me or the board in general, but I reeeeeaaaaallllly hope that authorities have been notified about this guy.

:: snaps fingers ::

Damn, that rings a bell! I remember some twit, a while ago, who called you “Bodini”. I seem to recall said twit getting banned after an obnoxious but mercifully short career here. But I cannot, for the life of me, dredge up said dope’s name.

:smack:

FruitPie/six_personalities?

Police.

As if I’m the first to say so, I know.

twitch

I know we should trust your judgement, but a lot of us are probably wanting to scream out, “Call the police!” … just because that’s doing something. Not that it will help, per se.

[bad thoughts]
I mean, what if this guy creates a whole alter ego just to befriend you enough to get your guard down?

Or goes to a Dope gathering that he knows you’ll be at?

[/bad thoughts] …

Well, I just used a directory search that uses a number of different phone companies’ databases, and I came up with nothing whatever on “Lynn Bodini” or just plain “Bodini” in Texas. This site can usually come up with whomever I’m looking for about 80% of the time, so I think the odds are good there isn’t one.

Also, given the way he was acting, I would think if he really had Lynn’s info he would have threatened her directly at the same time as here, just to make it more terrifying…or that he would have posted it here to prove he had it. My guess is he was bluffing.

Still, jail (or hospital time) is in order. Anyone sick enough to act like that needs either to be punished or treated.

I read it all, Lynn. I’m glad it’s deleted. You probably ought to find out who it is just to let his parents know what he’s up to.

I wish you sweet days to come and a relaxing autumn.
