So you disdain the thread subject?

Liberal, if you’re going to try to take the high ground on not hijacking discussions, could you explain your behavior in this thread?

High ground? What part of “Hijacking and mudslinging accusations of hijacking have become epidemic of late. Even the sun wobbles” exempted myself?

I confess, I have done it, but I try not to and basically have decided that if I’m not interested in a subject, I won’t post in the thread. The one time I remember doing this was in a thread on a different reality show, that Trump one.

I agree though, it doesn’t add.

(I also agree that reality TV should die! :))

Sometimes though, people will post “What do you think of Stanger in a Strange land.” I will then post my opinion, even if it is negative.

What part of that post was I referring to? Oh wait, I wasn’t. I was referring to your condescension in post #19 of this thread.

Touche’

BTW, anyone wanna join me for a nice, civil thread about, oh, say, Paul Verhoeven movies???

You sound pretty condescending yourself. I haven’t taken any high ground in any of these posts. You’re just stuck in a rut.

You gotta cite for that?

I really liked the first Robocop movie!

…you have five seconds to comply…

Well, the first step toward solving a problem is admitting that you have a problem…:stuck_out_tongue:

But that’s an entirely different type of thread. Aesiron and Miller gave good examples of similar types of threads where this behavior occurs. I couldn’t have cited those examples because I don’t bother to read threads about the megalaser output of Buffy’s Enterprise or whatever because I’m just not interested in that. But I certainly don’t disdain anyone who is interested. If they have fun talking about it, then more power to them. I just hope they don’t disdain me for going on and on about whether ELO fits into the “arena rock” genre.

And I just want to say–I hope we really can have a civilized discussion about Verhoeven one of these days. Robocop is my favorite movie of all time. But I’ve been really afraid to talk about it, ya know?

Pfft. That hack?

You are obviously of stunted intelligence because you don’t recognize Verhoeven’s sheer brilliance! Why, Showgirls was a satire of a parody of a farce, masquerading as a giant joke on the audience!

You actually made me laugh out loud with this and that’s generally pretty difficult to do with text unless you’re named Peter David or Douglas Adams. Good one.

I only know the periferal (SP?) of that story, but get the gist.

I do try not to crap in people’s threads, but am not always sure where the line is drawn. Someone asked tonight if the trilogy XXXX could be made into a movie. That person loved the trilogy. I really disliked it, and thought about saying so - but you know, most of the posters popped in to say they also loved the books. I wasn’t sure if people were interested in all opinions, or if this thread was just for those who enjoyed the book. I opted out. Why bring down the thread, eh? But you know, on a different night I might have thought it was OK, I might have thought that I was just voicing my opinion. I mean, it IS a general forum. I guess I’m saying that sometimes a person may just be trying to be part of the discussion, and there is no mal-intent.

I agree, and I addressed that in my OP when I said “A well-reasoned opinion of why Survivor should be allowed to die would be most welcome, and a relevant addition to the thread.” There’s nothing wrong with negative opinions, per se. It’s when people just post to say that the whole subject is stupid.

To use your example–it would be more than okay to post something like “I feel that a movie made from this trilogy would be crippled by the same shortcomings that caused me to dislike the books. For example…” It would be bad to post something like “a movie would be suck becuase the bookx sucked” (spelling and punctuation errors intentional.)

Green Bean, I’m glad you posted this thread. I was reading the Survivor thread that inspired this one. I hate when people do this. I’m all for giving opinions when they’re asked for, but with threads like “The Apprentice - 10/28”, you know that it’s for people who have watched the show and want to discuss what happened. It’s not for high and mighty assholes to come in and shit all over them.

I don’t care if someone doesn’t like something that I do, but interrupting a conversation just to be a dick and tell everyone how much more cultured they are because they don’t watch or listen to “_______”, is being a jerk. I hope these people don’t do this in real life, too.

Keep on sidestepping, Lib. Sooner or later, people won’t notice.

Actually, I probably could be nicer about things. Even in cases where I believe I’m right, there’s no need to be mean about it.

In all honestly, I don’t think anyone questions your manners. I don’t even question your intentions. It just seems you’ve been doing a lot of hypocritical things lately (the thread hijacking then complaining about hijacking incident brought up here), and the frequency of pedantic drive-bys (nice oxymoron there) has seemed to increase.

Lord, I hope it doesn’t look like I’m nipping your heels, thread to thread. Just seems we’ve been posting in a lot of the same threads recently. Just an honest observation.

No problem. I’m still digesting Priceguy’s advice. It’s hard, from within a subjective reference frame, to fully comprehend an objective observation. But I’m working on it. I trust his advice for a couple of reasons: (1) even though he and I had had run-ins before, he was patient with me in a GQ thread about the stock market, and (2) when it was a matter of something I knew and he didn’t, he listened, asked questions, and came out the other end understanding what he learned. Then he took the time to give me advice about my… well… methods here. The very least I owe him is a diligent effort.

Here it is.
Those fucking stupid comments were so fucking stupid it was fucking stupid. I even set up a fucking thread for the fuckers to rag all over ENT if they fucking felt it was so fucking important to do so.

Here’s an idea for new threads: If you wouldn’t say it to the face of this redneck construction worker who looks like he could lift a house with his bare hands, then it isn’t welcome in my thread. GOT IT!?

Some people like things that you don’t get. So what? Why crap on their fun? Oh, right… no real life friends either. :stuck_out_tongue:

Why so afraid to point out the truth here? Lib’s constantly, in fact, almost unceasingly, a complete asshole. And it doesn’t help that he coats his dickery in sugary, patronizing platitudes. But I guess that’s how he avoids having to defend his statements.
