So You Don't Think Grocery Workers Deserve Protection....

You don’t even have to care about Broomstick to care. Grocery workers are handling and delivering items to all of America. All someone needs is self interest to want grocery workers protected in order to protect themselves.

I am NOT being callous to grocery workers (far, far from it). Just saying even those who are should still care.

See: Typhoid Mary

People often forget the best way to not get sick is to make sure others don’t get sick either.

Well, this thread is nine kinds of fucked up.

Kroger, America’s Largest Grocer, and the UFCW, America’s Largest Food and Retail Union, Issue Urgent Call for Nation’s Elected Leaders to Designate Grocery Workers as First Responders.

luci, stop 'splaining.

You’re a bad person.

Only wanted to say that I appreciate the grocery store workers and instacart folks as much as I do the first responders and doctors - thank you.

It’s too late and I’m too tired to play internet judge with eluci. He’s not on my jerk radar.

Stop taking stuff from people that’s not yours.

Fuck you, go to hell, and shut the fuck up. I hate you. I loathe you. I despise you. I spit on you. If you were on fire I wouldn’t piss on you to put it out.

Wow, you’re as good at ducking responsibility as Trump.

You stated that grocery store workers didn’t deserve PPE, even minimal PPE. Is THAT OK? Saying that people who as part of their job, a job required to keep civilization glued together at this point, don’t deserve protection during their work day when they come into contact with literally hundreds of people.

Since you remain clueless: no, it’s not OK. It is a bad thing you did. Even worse, you still have no comprehension of just how bad it was. You’re butthurt because I keep saying I hate you (which I do).

I’m butthurt because you want to strip my meager protection from a contagious and potentially lethal virus while I’m working to keep people like you fed and your asswiped with something other than your bare hand. Which is a nice of “fuck you, you aren’t important and I don’t care if you get sick and die” to everyone doing what I do for a living.

So…

Fuck you, go to hell, and shut the fuck up. I hate you. I loathe you. I despise you. I spit on you. If you were on fire I wouldn’t piss on you to put it out.

You’re “sticking up” for your vile words and desire to hurt other people. That is a horrible action. No, it’s not OK, it’s appalling, nauseating, and disgusting. It is vile. It is contemptible.

You did wrong. And you refuse to admit it. I’m not even asking for an apology. I’ve given up hope that you will realize how wrong you are. But I’m not going to ignore someone as dangerous as someone arguing to strip protection from people doing vital work. You’re at least as bad as the people arguing that we should re-open the economy because money is more important than people dying so some rich old fuck’s stock portfolio doesn’t lose value.

Fuck you, go to hell, and shut the fuck up. I hate you. I loathe you. I despise you. I spit on you. If you were on fire I wouldn’t piss on you to put it out.

Apparently you are unaware that masks other than N95 actually DO offer some protection, as discussed by WHO, by the CDC, and by others.

They’re not as good as N95, but if everyone wore a mask we’d all be just a bit safer. If the fucking assholes like eludicator would actually keep a goddamned six feet away from others, they wore a mask, stayed behind the fucking sneeze shield, and I wore a mask (by which I mean, in both cases, SOMETHING over the mouth whether it’s a “surgical” mask, bandana or in his case, a used sock in the mouth) all of those tactics would slow down and diminish viral transmission. And as someone who knows damn well I’m not likely to see an N95 any time soon I want as many layers between me and the customers as possible that still allow the job to get done. Because I’m not going to work out of a death-wish, I’m doing it because it needs to be done and I need to pay my bills. I want to survive the experience, preferably in good health.

Lesser masks than N95 do, in fact, provide some protection to the wearer. Not as much, but working an 8 hour shift dealing with hundreds of people face to face I want as much protection as I can get, even if that amounts to “not that much”, and fuck anyone who wants to deny me even that little.

eludicator didn’t say “hey, N95’s need to go to medical workers first”, he launched into a profanity laden spew about how mere grocery clerks didn’t deserve anything, the followed it up with a post that said

That’s not “oh, I think N95’s should go to doctors first and always”, that’s “I hope you and your coworkers get sick, suffer, and die”. In comparison, this is pretty damn mild:

Fuck you, go to hell, and shut the fuck up. I hate you. I loathe you. I despise you. I spit on you. If you were on fire I wouldn’t piss on you to put it out.

No, I’m open to the possibly other people are idiots, too.

Jesus Broomstick. Yeah, luci fucked up, there ain’t no denying. But your frothing and hystrionics are actually deflecting from his relatively simple fuck up…you are the one coming off as unhinged here.

So, you admit it. Yet you remain clueless that you, you did do something wrong and deserve the shit you are getting for it. Oh, poor you - you did a bad thing and now you’re being called on the carpet for it.

Fuck you, go to hell, and shut the fuck up. I hate you. I loathe you. I despise you. I spit on you. If you were on fire I wouldn’t piss on you to put it out.

^ This.

I have several co-workers in quarantine right now awaiting test rests, all of them showing covid symptoms. There are a half-dozen confirmed cases of store workers having covid-19 in this area. At least two Wal Mart workers in the greater Chicago area have died of covid-19. This is not some theoretical issue. It’s very, very real. These are people I work with daily. We need masks to provide what teeny protection they give the wearer. We need masks so workers and customers who have this virus but aren’t (yet) showing symptoms aren’t spreading it to others.

You’re welcome. And thank you.

^ This.

Sure, I want to be protected myself. But even if you think grocery store workers are scum:

You should want them to have masks to protect YOURSELF from their “cooties”.

^ This. Especially with a virus that turns you into a “Typhoid Mary” for a week before it makes you actually sick. We should ALL be wearing masks of some sort these days.

You’re welcome.

Simple fuck up? Seriously?

First, he wants to strip one of the few, minor protections we have.

Then he says this shit:

That second takes it from “minor mistake” to “actively wishing harm on people”.

I deal with this shit all the time. People who deliberately bump into store staff and make a joke of it. People who disregard health regulations intended to protect everyone, including their own fucked up idiot selves. People who spit/cough/otherwise deliberately contaminate food. It’s always “oh, I forgot” or “oh, it’s all a hoax anyway” or some other lame-ass excuse that boils down to “I don’t care if I endanger others, I don’t care if I kill the people who keep the food chain working”.

No more excuses. No more “oh, it’s a lapse”. You make a mistake then own it and fucking apologize for it. Don’t excuse sloppy behavior that can get people killed.

Hundreds of grocery store workers sick. At least 40 of them DEAD from this virus. This is not a joke. It is absolutely goddamned real.

It’s tempting to just put eludicator on ignore, but his words and attitudes are dangerous. That sort of shit can get people sick or even dead right now. So no, I’m not going to let up. Every time he rears his ugly, santorum-stained face in this thread he’s going to get this:

Fuck you, go to hell, and shut the fuck up. I hate you. I loathe you. I despise you. I spit on you. If you were on fire I wouldn’t piss on you to put it out.

I risk my health and potentially my life every single day I go to work.

So FUCK anyone wishing to deny me even the smallest slice of additional protection.

I am not a doctor, or a nurse, or an EMT or a police officer. I did NOT sign up for dangerous job. Me and my coworkers were drafted into risking our lives every single goddamned day we go to work. But we’re doing it anyway. With less pay and less protection than any of those other categories.

So, to anyone who think we’re contemptbile, deserving of illness and death, like

Fuck you, go to hell, and shut the fuck up. I hate you. I loathe you. I despise you. I spit on you. If you were on fire I wouldn’t piss on you to put it out.

FTR, I am biased b/c elucidator is one of my favorite posters here since joining the forum. I sometimes think of him as a kindred soul to me because he strikes me as being cynical as hell and has a dark sense of humor to boot.

I don’t think elucidator is really that contemptuous toward grocery store employees or other blue collar workers, but there are times and situations when ‘schtick’ is less funny than it normally is, and it sometimes it just completely bombs. Seems to be the case now.

It’s an emotional time for anyone with regular contact with the public. In my area, multiple grocery store workers have died for doing jobs that don’t pay well and are often underappreciated. They don’t get paid like healthcare workers do but face many of the same risks. They (and everyone else in the supply chain) are putting food on our table right now.

Eh, I’d have given him the benefit of the doubt if he hadn’t repeatedly doubled down on the assholish stupid in this thread. But he’s successfully shown his disdain towards grocery store employees is more than a single comment.

I appreciate the men and women working in the service industry and even before our current difficulties felt they deserved to be treated with more respect which includes better pay. Now that they’ve been deemed “essential” I hope Americans take this into consideration and agree that they deserve to be paid a living wage and have access to healthcare.

Funny thing is you take time to make detailed posts that say something. **elucidator **basically acts like a class clown most of the time. Adding so little, I pretty much glance over most of his posts. He adds almost nothing, I don’t always agree with you but you add to the Dope.

Then to see him try to use a twisty non-equal arguments in this thread pushed him from gadfly into asshole territory. He is suddenly acting like a complete ass.

There’s two issues here.

First, you are factually in error on whether a patron or employee wearing a simple cloth mask has fuck-all to do with the shortage of PPE for medical workers.

Second, there’s the vitriol between you and she.

I’m guessing her comments relating to the second matter are making you double down on your comments on the first matter. That’s just not rational, when you are so clearly in error on the first. That seems to be causing the second issue to get more heated.

Man, you’re just way off base here, and there isn’t really any defensible position for you in this fight. Implying that we should view this differently because someone hurt your feelings don’t make no sense either.

He wouldn’t be the first guy to double down when ganged up on by a cyber mob. I’m not saying elucidator’s in the right here, but there’s a real person behind the handle. This is the first time I’ve seen anything that even remotely looked dickish coming from him.

Having said that, I can certainly understand how pissed off Broomstick would be. Like I said, it’s an emotional time. The threat of death is very real to everyone from medics to the UPS guy.

The natural rights of every human being are not awarded because someone declares them “essential”. They come with the navel. We all got 'em. We hold these rights to be self-evident, and “deserve” ain’t got nothing to do with it.
