Not that there’s anything wrong with that. . .
He sounds crazy because he is crazy.
Forgot about that one. Outrageous satire that would put The Onion to shame, if only he weren’t serious about it.
Suffer long and with agonizing awareness.
c’mon! you don’t really mean this do ya:eek:
And that thread is related to Lance Armstrong and his fraud…how?
Tiring of a position you know to be lame is always amusing to watch.
Carry on.
No direct connection. Just an another example of an unbalanced viewpoint.
It’s always fun to see when a poster realized they have nothing. The points made cannot be refuted so it’s suddenly deemed best to take the third grader’s approach and bully someone.
It’s a pussy tactic. Even in The Pit, it shows the poster up every time as someone who is grasping at something- anything- to deflect readers from realizing that they have no firm position in the discussion being conducted in the thread. Some call that " threadshitting ", others call it " highjacking ". Me, I just call it a pussy tactic.
Now, back to the thread. Idolizing some jock isn’t the issue. This is a scam in a moral way as much as a fiscal way. Madoff? Yeah. Fiscal scam. People wanted unreal returns, didn’t care how they got them. Greed. Basic greed. Guys like Kevin Bacon and his wife were soaked for $ 50 Million by Madoff. But the parties participating did not believe there was any more lofty goal that slaking greed.
In the case of Lance, it wasn’t greed. People donated miniscule amounts to titanic amounts of money. They bought into a construct that was not fair, or moral. Am I insanely thrashing about? Well, no. Am I pissed at the artifice and amount of chutzpah shown by Lance? Yeah.
He’s a lying fuck. He should be reduced to financial ruin. Eventually, the cancer will return- and nobody will give one good damn. Fair deal, I say.
The point—in case you tripped over it—is not that Lance Armstrong isn’t a douche: it’s that your frothing, garment-rending overreaction to it is so hilariously out of proportion, considering that you don’t even know him personally and that he has not (to the best of my knowledge) introduced your family into a wood chipper.
That’s not funny. My grandmother died in a wood chipper mishap.
I’m sorry for your loss. Then again, mulch!
Grandma simply became too mulchuous for her own good.
What? “They bought into a construct that was not fair or moral”? I don’t even know what that means. They donated money to a cancer charity, which then used the money to fund cancer research. How is this immoral or unfair? This is what I am talking about when I say you sound like a crazy person. This does not even make sense. Also, wishing that someone would get cancer and die in the street is not cool and the fact that you are directing it at someone whose crime was cheating at bike racing seems even more insane. It makes me think that you are the kind of guy who tells his neighbors that they should die in a fire every time they leave their garbage can blocking your mailbox. You are dialed up to 13 on this when the actual circumstances warrant maybe like a 5 at best.
This is reasonable. Being pissed off at a cheater seems reasonable. All the other nonsense about people being scammed and immoral constructs and people dying penniless pauper deaths in gutters of necrotizing fasciitis or whatever, is not reasonable.
Eric Idle tweeted: “Lance Armstrong stripped of seven titles for taking drugs. Imagine if that applied to the Grammys how many would be left?”
Just read that thread. Wow.
Am I glad that Real Life ain’t like the Pit. I can’t imagine what it’d be like if, when I started ranting about some celebrity at the pub, a mate could say “You’re just as upset as you were back in 2006!” And then everyone else could instantly replay my past incoherent meltdown all over again, and not take my current one as seriously.
Just for the record, if Cartoony had admitted he was mistaken in that thread, I wouldn’t have brought it up, and let sleeping dogs lie. But he clearly can’t do that… so don’t expect any of that here, either.
Y’all have fun. There was a time when hijacking merited a warn. Now, instead, the kind of language I’d dearly love to use here in the Pit by way of response to the posts frothingly derailing this thread is banned by Ed Zotti himself. ( See relevant stickies at top of The Pit ).
So, well. I’m supposed to apologize and flagellate and make nice and retract so I can be like the cool kids who don’t like my OP?
Tough darts.
Peruse the news, kids. I’m pissed. There are plenty of folks out there already pursuing legal recourse against the little thief. They’re a measure of pissed beyond pissed. Me, I just hate seeing a thief get away with it.
That’s cuckoo bananas. This thread is starting to make more sense.
That crazy Colin Farrel thread reminded me of a dumb thread in Cafe Society where someone worried they were a hypocrite for seeing The Hunger Games because children fight to the death in it! I thought it might be by our friend of Lance’s here but nope. Guess we have more than a few nuts in our appetizer here.
The only thing he stole, apparently, was your sense of proportion and reason. Good lord. Have you always been like this and I just never noticed?
That other thread is crazypants too. Get a grip, man.
Sometimes a thread reveals a poster’s crazy side. There was a shakespeare authenticity thread here a little bit ago that destroyed some posters’ credibility as critical thinkers in my mind. But they’re quite normal on almost every other topic.
There’ve been a couple of times where I’ve posted a rant here, only to be told “Nope, check your facts, not a problem.” And I’ve calmed down, and ironed my undies (so they weren’t in a bundle anymore).
I wish Cartooniverse could do that. As soon as he was told “Nope. No love scenes in The New World”, or “Nope. Donations not going to Lance, but to actual cancer awareness”, he could calm down.
We’re not your enemies, man – we don’t want you to have an aneurism right in the middle of a message board.* (Now, if someone had had one in the Paterno thread…)*
See that “Fighting Ignorance” slogan up top? It works, if you let it apply to you, too.
Full disclosure: I think you are a crazy person.
But you seem like you actually think you have a valid point and seem like you genuinely wish to defend it so a few questions.
You realize that doping is rampant in big league biking, right? So do you hold all bike racers in the same disregard?
Please describe how his organization is a scam. He asked for money under the guise of using it for research and to help victims of cancer, took in money and used it for research and to help cancer victims. Where is the scam part?
I love how you chastise posters for not staying on topic, post “Now, back to the thread” and launch into a Madoff rant. Classic.
