That’s it! That’s the ticket!
Just offer the insurance companies totally gross profit on firearm insurance. 'Course, we yank it back once we get what we want, because freedom. And fuck 'em.

Who knew guns were dangerous?? I thought they were a right! I should be careful with guns?? Who knew?!?
I read on the internet about these four weird tricks for gun safety.
And please don’t get me wrong, I have genuine sympathy for this man. And it has been said on this thread that the poor bastard has to live with this. But this country is so fucked up! Picture this, he didn’t shoot his kid, he had his kid in a car…and he was driving drunk, and killed his kid. Fuck no, no sympathy for that guy.
The kid would be just as dead, of course.
American hypocrisy, and feigned sympathy are funny buggers.
There is no such thing as a shotgun so dirty that cleaning it can’t be put off until there isn’t a 10 y/o in the room.
Was that the one from the local mom?
Really? You have to register to drive a car, have it renewed regularly, people seem to manage somehow. I mean shouldn’t gun ownership be at least as difficult as car ownership?
Just like cars it will cost more to insure more guns. Assault weapons would cost more like a Bentley costs more to insure.
It seems somewhat obvious. Bonus points for serving up more profits for poor insurance companies losing out to Obamacare!
If the state can force people to carry car insurance, so innocent people run down in the street have recourse for medical bills, time lost from work, support for the family so they don’t end up homeless, shouldn’t gun ownership come with similar responsibility?
I’m sure every gun owner believes THEY would never, have a gun stolen, handle it unsafely, store it improperly, etc. The innocent neighbour, who’s child gets shot ‘accidentally’ deserves the same recourse, I think.
Yeah, until she shot herself in the vagina.
That’s not what happened in this case. He did not have this potentially defective model of rifle. He had a regular shotgun with a regular trigger. And yeah, there are ways the trigger can get pulled by accident, meaning a for-real accident. Like, a tree branch slips into the trigger guard and pulls the trigger. That could happen.
That’s not what happened in this case. The man pointed a loaded shotgun at his kid’s head and pulled the trigger. Just like when Dick Cheney accidentally shot his buddy in the face, what happened was that Dick Cheney pointed a loaded shotgun at his buddy and pulled the trigger. That’s how accidental shootings invariably happen.
Any gun owners disagree? Because if you disagree, you must believe that guns sometimes just go off at random. I’m not a gun owner, but I know enough about guns to know that they don’t go off at random, they go off when you load them and pull the trigger, and the bullet goes in the direction the gun is pointing.
Pics, or it didn’t happen.
Of course not. I’m against anything that increases the cost of gun ownership, and I think poor minorities deserve the right to defend themselves the same as anyone else. How about you?
What percent of US citizens do you think will handle a firearm in their lifetime? My guess 70-80%.
So I think people in poorer communities have as much or more need to defend themselves as anyone else.
Also I don’t think you should have to buy insurance to exercise your constitutional rights.
How effective is teaching abstinence only for sex education? From what I understand it don’t work too well. Am I wrong?
Well the famous gun control advocate Kellerman did show those with rifles and shotguns in their homes were at a lesser risk for homicide. He didn’t play that aspect up in the conclusion of his study however.
‘Course insurance companies make a tidy profit by charging more than the risk they cover so fuck em’.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with cleaning a shotgun with a 10 y/o in the room. Just unload it first, and don’t point it at him whether it is loaded or not.
Yes, and anti-gun people hate her.
Good point! If only the current administration had a clue about gun safety. Of course Cheney shot an old man in the face so you can’t say much in favor of the prior administration either.
Education on this misrepresentation was provided on the SDMB just in the past couple of months. That was a bivariate, uncontrolled relationship. It was not “played up” in the conclusion because it didn’t hold in the final model.
Why? You can only shoot one gun at at time and “Assault weapons” are rarely involved in accidents and homicides.
