"So You Think You Can Dance"

Musa and partner’s style last night totally turned me off, and that’s just not their fault. I thought he did well for what they were given but it just doesn’t work for me.

That female judge was being a .$%#… I wanted to smack her.

I’m still a big Benji fan. Anybody else notice all the signs for him in the crowd at the end? I thought that was highly amusing.

And I’m a bit embarassed to say, I actually called in a vote.

…for … ?

Well, my prediction was half right. I realize all these kids except one are going to be eliminated before this season is over. . . but these eliminations are hard!

Who was it? I didn’t get to watch the elimination show.

Joy and Ryan, I think (Aleksandra’s partner).

Oooh, did I peg it or what?

Joy’s solo - kinda sloppy, at a time when she really needed to show she could nail something. No grace, no presence.

Dmitry - Talk about presence. Powerful.

Heidi - Showed her speed and precision. Really good.

Ryan - Played it too safe. Contemporary went over great last week, pop didn’t last night, so it’s back to contemporary, and a very similar style to last week’s, when he should have been showing he could stretch out toward something else.

Aleksandra - Didn’t seem to be trying very hard. The choreography seemed improvised and haphazard, but her technique is a hair sharper than Joy’s.

Jason - That was just spastic and weird, but at least he went for it.

Even if the thread didn’t already tell me who went home, it’s obvious from the solos.

Oh, whoops! No, Ryan stays and Jason goes! I guess they liked Ryan better after all. That surprises me, because I felt like I got nothing new from him tonight.

The partnership of Aleksandra and Dmitry should be interesting. I guess the plan is that as the weak member of a couple will gets axed, the couples overall will get stronger over time. Interesting.

At this point though, the final four still look like Martha/Travis and Benji/ Donyelle, the latter two of whom were engaging in a little more contact early in the show than was probably strictly necessary. Hmmm…

Benji/Donyelle.

It looked like Aleksandra was trying to throw in the towel during her solo. She’s nervous? Well, yes, but that doesn’t mean you should just throw in the towel.

Sorry to see Ryan go. I thought he was good.

I think that Dmitri and Aleksandra will complement each other well. They make a lovely couple anyway. Joy was dragging Dmitri down like an albatross around his neck.

Speaking of Joy, I thought that Mia was brutal to her. If she wasn’t ready for the competition then it’s the judges fault for picking her. There was really nothing instructive about crushing her like a wine grape.

Oh and Musa and Natalie are hot. Maybe it’s because he’s one of the few masculine dancers. Sorry Benjy and Ben.

Once again, the choice of female seemed right, and the choice of male seemed a trifle arbitrary.

It will be interesting to see how the newly-matched couple works out. They’ll definitely be at a disadavantage, having to learn each other’s styles in addition to learning the dance.

Oh, and I’m opposed to the notion that the judges should take turns as choreographers for just one of the couples. It lends itself to bias.

The judges aren’t choreographing just one couple; I’ve seen them do 2 or three. The one-off choreographers (like the krump dude) don’t judge.

I agree with the judges’ decisions, but if they had chosen Aleks I wouldn’t have been upset. Her solo sucked.

Won’t all the parents please take away their daughter’s cell phones next week so that we can vote Ivan off? Please?

It’s okay. Until this, I’ve never picked up the phone to vote for anything I saw on television. Now, my roommate and I each have a cell phone, and we call in a vote from the house phone as well, if we feel that strongly about somebody.

It’s all her fault–I never would have watched this show without her.

Actually, Ryan is staying. Jason left.

The other judges thought she was ready. Mia was not present when that decision was made. Her comments wouldn’t stand out as much if Dan Karaty was sitting next to her. He is routinely critical.

If I didn’t have my DVR to fast forward through all the crap parts and repeat bits, I’d never watch it either!

I’m late to the game because I was on vacation last week. Either everyone’s lost interest in the show or they were on vacation as well.

Anyway, it ran over again and I missed the final comments, but I see from the website that Ben and Aleksandra were voted off.

My thoughts: I agreed with just about everything that Nigel said, except that I thought Aleksandra did fine. She blew it with her “save my life” dance, IMO. It was nice to see Nigel apologize for calling her the Corpse Bride, which I thought was cruel.

I thought Musa did great given his limitations; I love his chemistry with Natalee.

Ivan and Allison smoked.

I really liked Jessica and Jaymz contemporary number and was surprised to see them in the bottom three.

Heidi and Ryan did magnificent, probably the best number of the night.

I completely agreed with the judges who said that Martha and Travis were two good performers who simply didn’t gel together. During the routine I commented that Travis was outperforming his partner; not good.

Ashlee looks disconcertedly like Mayim Bailik of the 80’s show “Blossom” but I think she did good. I think Ben did fine, too, until he blew it on the final.

I agree with Nigel that both Ben and Jaymz’s solos sucked rocks. I’m amazed that Ben admitted that he put zero effort into the routine before the judges voted. It showed and it certainly didn’t endear him with the judges. And what was up with Jaymz falling off the freaking stage? Personally, I thought he should have gone home.

Dmitry’s solo was HOT.

So I guess this means that Ashlee and Dmitryi will be paired up? Blech.

Actually, there is a new dated thread. Come join!
