I’m working on a short-licence community broadcast station at the end of September and I need some idents/jingles; if any dopers out there fancy themselves as voice talent and would like to (freely)donate an audio sample, I’d be really very grateful.
Cheesy phrases I need include:
“Chase FM”
“Eighty-seven point nine”
“Back to back”
“The best music”
“Solid music”
“Non-stop music”
“Eighties, nineties and today”
This is your chance to become anonymously admired by a small handful of listeners in rural England! Don’t miss it!
Many radio station idents here in the UK are (oddly) American accented, but I really don’t mind and I would like to have a variety of voices to play around with; all I will say is - don’t fake any accent unless you can do it really well, yes, Dick Van Dyke, I’m talking to you!
So out of curiosity, will the winning voices be notified? I’d kinda like to know if my voice gets used… Not for any monetary reimbursement, but just to add to the resume, you know? I’ll put together a recording or three… I don’t use Yahoo mail… Is there a file size limit?
I did a radio show in College, Mayhem in the Morning / Easy Listening for the Morally Bankrupt. It was a hard-core (music) show. I played a lot of Dead Kennedys, Agent Orange, and even some Negativeland.
Bonus Challenge: Can anyone tell me what Negativeland’s front man called himself?
I’ll be pleased to let anyone know if I do use their sample(s).
The file size limit (if any) will be imposed by my Yahoo mailbox which is at present empty; I can’t imagine that a few short .wav or .mp3 files are going to clog it up too much.
A quick look at my Yahoo inbox tells me that a free email account gets you 4 MB, so that’s enough for a bunch of short .wav or .mp3 files (assuming a few seconds apiece.)
As for the radio voice thingy, I don’t know if I have a radio voice, but I go on the radio anyway! I have two friends who have shows on our college radio station, and I am always on their shows with them, and I hope to get my own show after I go through the training this fall (of course, after being with them so many times, I could practically run the station myself now.)
I’ll record a few things, see how they sound, and if I like it I’ll send 'em your way.
The station will be broadcasting to the village of Waltham chase (about 1500 homes between Southampton and Portsmouth) - it is only a 15 watt transmitter, so a few of the neighbouring villages might be able to pick it up if the wind is in the right direction.
On the way home, it occurred to me that it might be amusing to have a Dutch accented voice saying “So much music…it’ll blow your clogs off!”, but it also occurred to me that this is rather racially stereotyped and might not go down too well; what do you think?
Just to make sure we’re all clear (well, me, anyway)… you just want one file that incorporates one of those phrases, right? You don’t want one that incorporates all of them or even for each phrase, right?
Damn fire alarm is going off here for no apparant reason… Will do this when THAT’s gone…
