The Cub is playing indoor soccer and was playing goal. Sometimes after an attempted goal, his coach told him to put the ball on the crease line to kick. Other times, coach let him put it inside the crease and kick, or throw it out.
When are you required to kick from the crease line, and when can you do other options?
If a member of the opposing team puts the ball out of play by kicking across the goal line (i.e. the line that runs from one side of the pitch to the other behind the goal), other than when a goal is scored the game will restart with a goal kick.
The goal kick can be taken from anywhere within the six yard box and by any player, but usually it is taken from the six yard line by the goalkeeper.
If the goalkeeper picks up the ball whilst it is still in play they can develop play by throwing it, putting it on the ground and kick it (though as the ball is still in play the opposing team can try to tackle them) or throwing it in the air and kicking it. They can only hold onto the ball though for 6 seconds and they can’t leave their penalty area whilst handling the ball.
I’ve been playing indoor soccer (as a goalie mostly) for years - and goal kicks are exceedingly rare. Are they playing in some kind of modified playing area where the ball can go out of bounds? Normally, if you make a save you throw it out. If it misses the goal it is still live.
Around here there is a line about 20’ up on the wall the goal is in and if the ball hits over that line the keeper gets it in their hand. If it hits below, it is in play. No goal kicks in this league.
For us the league rules are posted on the sports park’s website.
