Buggered if I know why either. I’m convinced it is some reference to the large Protestant following the club has and their “allegiance” to the Queen (who is, of course, of German origin), “Hun” meaning, literally, German. Personally I think it’s a load o bollocks.
What league do they play in?
(I follow Glasgow Celtic, from t’other side of the Atlantic…because I was told some urban legend-type story that my grandfather once played for their youth squad. Probably not so…but there are pix of him playing with some Brit Army team in India or the Middle East
Also, I keep an eye on AFC Bournemouth, because a good friend of mine hails from there originally. Go Cherries!)
Heh heh good old Gillingham.
I remember having a bit of a disagreement in ‘79 or 80’ IIRC when they missed out on promotion to either Peterborough or Northampton.
We were at the promoted teams town doing a gymnastic display and they were celebrating and my friend was a serious Gills fan.
They attacked him, thinking he was alone but they were wrong, as nearly 70 navy lads chipped in to help him out.
We kicked them out of their own town centre <sigh> happy days!
Poor bugger.
ROFLMOA!
(sigh) True, but I do like to cheer for underdogs.
