I’m starting to learn about English soccer, and I’ve learned a little about Accrington Stanley, an old soccer team that used to be stereotypically awful, many years ago.
Whatever happened to the team? And just how awful were they?
Thanks

If you want more history about them, try going to http://www.accystan.co.uk/defaulthistory.htm. The team is still around.
[hijack]If you want to support a good team, I recommend Arsenal.[/hijack]
A brief history of the team is available here
Thanks!
(I didn’t think there’d be stuff on the 'net, sorry about that.)
The Accrington Stanley website says they won first place in their semi-pro league last year.
Oh well, even lovable losers can get it wrong once in a while…
Arsenal were a formidable team until a week ago - now they are a rich team, still I don’t mind if they sell their best players, give our young Leeds squad a better chance.
Yeah…I’m still in shock over losing Manu…Overs can go, he was always a little too mercurial, anyway, but the way Petit controlled the midfield, to lose that…what have we wrought?
Aye true about Overmars but brilliant when he is on it.
More worrying though is that Bergkamp is a close friend and if the Gunners don’t do something about his loss soon he may well put himself up for transfer.
Not good for the reputation of English soccer.
sigh
If only Bergkamp would fly…we’re gonna suck in Europe, I’m afraid…
Whew. Reminds me of the Washington Senators: First in war, first in peace, last in the American league.
casdave - good result for your lot against my lot on Sunday…3-1 was it?
Bergkamp or nor, Ajax Amsterdam still kicked Arsenals ass saturday night, 2-0
I like Arsenal, but I’m also extremely glad to see my own squad in good shape. It’s been a while!
Tottenham supporter checking in. Don’t ask.
London, while we’re on the subject, how are the Spurs doing these days?
Hmmm. Should I move this to IMHO or to MPSIMS?
For there’s not a team like the Glasgow Rangers, no not one and there never will be one…etc.
Couldn’t let a football thread pass without comment.
That’s very amusing, Coldie.
Wondering why The Mad Hun is, in fact, a mad Scotsman - sounds pretty busy in his head.
“The Huns” is the nickname for Rangers, but I’m buggered if I can remember why.
I’ll send this one off to IMHO for further discussion of football team preferences.
Since you guys are the only people who’ll appreciate this:
GILLINGHAM ADVANCED! No one I know cares. Go Gills!
OK, I’m done now.
