Socks without holes

Is there such as think as a sock that won’t eventually wear through at the big toe? Does the technology exist to create such a thing that is still comfortable to wear?

Mine don’t wear through at the big toe. That’s because they wear through at the heel or ball of the foot first.

I doubt it would be possible and still comfortable. Even your shoes will wear through if you use them long enough.

keep your toenails trimmed and step heel-toe and the heels will wear first.

Yes, it’s called nail clippers.

In my opinion, your toe is the issue causing the increased wear. Either the toenail is thick, untrimmed, sharp, or just raised due to a slight neurological malady. It’s rubbing on the shoe at that point. In my running shoes I cut an X above the spot that rubs. I suppose this might not be an option on dress shoes. I also find that very expensive socks just don’t wear holes before the whole sock is pretty far gone and thinning.

Ditto all the above

So, is there such a thing as heel clippers, for myself and yabob?

Mine tend to go first at the heel too, but my theory is that this is because I am stressing them there when I pull them on, or pull them up.

I’m not so sure about the toenail theory. I keep my toenails trimmed short but still get socks wearing out at the big toe.
Seems like an obvious place to me, as in most socks the main stitching is at the front of the sock.

I think everyone’s right. It just depends on the person, how they wear and tear on shoes and socks, how cheap the socks are, etc. Mine wear at the Achilles or just under.

Although it seems obvious, I’ll mention it anyway. Better quality socks last longer. The lifespan of socks that come 8 to a bag is pretty short. Wear an $8 pair of socks for a couple of days and you’ll notice the difference in comfort. And they’ll last a lot longer.

I saw the title and thought, “How would you get your feet in?” I can’t be the only one!

I’m sure they could make them last longer, but fabric that doesn’t wear out ever is rather beyond what we can make at present. You’d have to use something scifi like self repairing fabric with built in nanotech. I mean, your feet are made of self repairing material; that’s what enables them to last 70+ years.

Yes, I was having the same image.

Maybe it’s true for really expensive socks, but in my experience, just “better quality” (don’t know their English name) socks have a shorter lifespan, because they’re thinner

And thick winter socks last a really long time., obviously.

Yes, but it’s being suppressed by the sock industry.

I buy insanely cheap socks at a store on Lawrence that sells nothing but socks. Every couple of years, I head over there and buy a huge bag of socks. I’ve been given more expensive socks as gifts, but have not noticed any increase in sock lifespan.
