It’s getting close to the June 20th date mentioned in this thread - I was wondering if anyone is still up for the Socorro Dopefest. Angua and Eva Luna - are you still coming to the area? Anyone else who lives nearby?
Yep, we will both still be there – I have to be at a wedding in Albuquerque at 5 pm that day, but am free the rest of the day, and I believe Angua’s session doesn’t end until midday on Sunday. So I think if it’s going to happen on the 20th, it’ll have to be a lunchtime/early afternoon sort of thing (although you guys can obviously stick around after I leave, which I guess would have to be 3 pm or so).
She is supposed to call me later tonight, so if she hasn’t posted here by then, I’ll point her in your direction.
But yep, I’m still game if y’all are!
Aw, crud. Forgot it was so soon, and now I’m booked for that date. Two rehearsals, one of which I don’t dare miss.

Hm, I hope we hear from her soon. My email address is available in my profile, if anyone planning on coming wants to contribute anything to the planning. My best idea is to meet somewhere (probably the campus, since that’s easy to find) and go to lunch, since this is going to be around noon.
I did get e-mail from her this morning; apparently she got a bit distracted last night 
and remembered that she was supposed to call me at a rather indecent hour (I’m glad she didn’t act on her impulse!)…I don’t have any way to call her, but I e-mailed her a link to this thread and my work # and suggested she call me later today. I’ll keep you posted as things progress, providing they do, indeed, progress.
OK, I have five minutes before lectures start 9on low frequency interferometry - the stuff I’m interested in, so I’ll be quick. I’m still up for a Socorro Dopefest on Sunday. I’m going to be at the VLA till about 2:30, so how does that stand in the grand scheme of things?
Also, I’m not going to have internet access after this evening until Monday. So, if something’s sorted out, after this evening, I’ll give Eva a call for the details.
I don’t know how this timing can possibly work if I have to be back in Albuquerque by 5 pm, dressed for a wedding - how long does the drive take?
I’ll think about it and post and/or e-mail later from home.
Update: unfortunately, I don’t think it’s gonna happen this time. Just spoke to Angua, and she wouldn’t be able to make it until about 3 pm, which is just about when I would have to leave. And as much as it would be cool to have a Socorro, NM mini-Dopefest, I don’t think I’m willing to drive almost 200 miles round-trip to spend five minutes with y’all.
::sigh:: Oh well, maybe the next time I have to go to a Turkmen/Alaskan wedding in Albuquerque the same week Angua is in Socorro! The only solution - we’ll all have to meet up in Chicago or the U.K.
Hm, yeah it doesn’t sound good. Actually the drive is about an hour (75 miles, with a 75 mph speed limit), but that’s from Socorro to the south side of Albuquerque. An hour is a little better than 5 minutes, but it’s still a lot to drive 2 hours for.
Angua, you can still email me if you wanted to get together for lunch on Sunday. There were maybe going to be a couple more of us (Strangelove has been told about it but I haven’t heard anything, and SteelWolf would come). If not, I hope you enjoy the rest of your time here in sunny sunny Socorro. 
Pity. The first time a dopefest is held in my little town, it is cancelled
