Spiny Norman (Hi Honey!) will be back in town and we’d love to have another get-together with the local Dopers. And since so many of you couldn’t make it last time because it was during the week, we agreed that we’d be happy to share our Saturday evening with you fine folks.
I’m open to suggestions on where to hold it. Pasadena might be fun, and it seems to be a somewhat central location. Or we could have a beach party and do dinner on the Redondo Beach pier (there’s also a fun arcade on the pier if anyone wants to play silly games after dinner). Though I’m not terribly fond of Tony’s (worse than Red Lobster, if you ask me), there is an El Torito on the pier, if you like Mexican food (I don’t think we’ve done that cuisine yet).
So what say you all? And who can make it? Come one, come all - the more the merrier!!
And since my birthday is on the 12th, you can all pool your resources to buy me a present. I’m thinking a 40-year-old Hughes 269 is only around $60,000 or so. You can wrap it up and surprise me. Or a Ducati would be nice.
I just consulted with Pat. If he can make it, so can I, since he has graciously offered his couch for whenever I attempt to make it to one. Oh and I get paid the day before, so I can totally pay for it!
And since I rarely make it down to that area (the last time was last june), i think this would be a good time to impress me with a fantabulous place! (actually, i’m easy to take out to dinner…as long as it’s mostly edible, it will do ;))
Finally! You people are speaking my language! I could skate to this place. No more bumming rides off of people. Though, Pat and Doob could pick me up because I’m on the way. We could talk before all hell breaks loose.
Ok, the more I talk with pat and merc, the more I want this to go off without a hitch. Please, lots of you show up, this is a rare opportunity to have someone from up north pay you all a visit, damn it!
This is the closet I’ve yet to come to attending my first dopefest. I’m jetting into L.A. on the 17th for a week at Disneyland after my brothers wedding.

And, Johnny… your birthday’s on the 12th, huh? Do you think it’s nuts that my birthday is on the 13th? (In other words, shower me with gifts, 'Dopers! I accept gold, money, or sex… or any combination of the three!)
All right, I managed to secure a ride (for me and my brother, if he’s coming… he’s asleep right now, so I don’t know). Anybody mind if I drag along my two bestest-best-best-most-bestest buddies?
Well, I live in Pasadena, and can think of some great places… so I vote for Pasadena. Redondo is a tad too far to drive.
My recommendation would probably be Lucky Baldwin’s in Old Town. There’s also a new Hooters in Pasadena, but I haven’t been in there yet. I can’t think of too many other places that could seat a bunch of people together… maybe Rose City Diner.
But… since I estimate that the weight of each person’s vote will be approximately proportional to their number of posts, I won’t hold my breath for a Pasadena Dopefest.
I voted for Redondo because it’s VERY close to where I live and NO posters live close to me. It would give Pat and Doobie the chance to pick me up along the way. Also, Doobie doesn’t get to see L.A. much and I would like to show him and Pat around the nieghboring beach city (Hermosa Beach) before the fest. It’ll be summer and there would be lots for Doobie-Doobie-Doo to do. So, I very strongly want the fest to be in Redondo.
Well, to get to the Bay Area dopefests, i have to drive a minimum of an hour to get to one ;).
I really dont care where it ends up. Merc was describing Hermosa Beach to me and it sounded like a fun side trip to do before the fest, since it’s right next door to Redondo Beach.
Anyway, i’ll be happy wherever it ends up, because i’ll get to meet LA dopers, and Spiny Norman.
It seems we have a concensus so far to hold this one in Redondo Beach - cool.
[side note to bughunter]Decisions on where to hold these dopefests aren’t based on post counts, but by the number of people who “vote” for one location over another. We’ve held them in a lot of places, including Universal City, Orange County, West L.A., Santa Monica and we’ve even had one in Pasadena. Since this one’s on a Saturday evening, that gives you plenty of time to do the driving and I hope you’ll change your mind and join us - we’d love to meet you![/side note]

Where’s everybody else?!! We have LOTS more L.A. dopers than this. If coming to the beach area is a problem, come vote for another location and if the votes outweigh Redondo, we’ll do it someplace else.

I will be there. I can’t wait to see everyone again. Doob and I will have a great time getting down there, I am sure. Plus, we get to hang out with Merc in Hermosa. Expect the three of us to be way early, having to kill a lot of time by walking in circles and talking to dogs. Doob is showing up in SoCal, and still no reply from Esprix? His gaydar must be down for maintenance.
This should be fun. I look forward to seeing everyone again.
