Soda prices

Did anyone ever notice how incredibly expensive 16oz or 20oz bottles of soda are? You see them in coolers in drugstores, convenience stores, etc. They’re quick and easy to grab, but they’re usually around $1.29 for 16oz. 8 cents per ounce. That’s $10.32 per gallon. And I thought gas was expensive! Same goes for fast-food sodas.

If you gotta drink soda a much better alternative is to buy 2 liter bottles for 99 cents. 67oz for .99 is a whole lot better than 16oz for $1.29. 1.4 cents per ounce. Or a grocery store near me has 24-packs of 12oz cans for $2.99. That’s about 12 cents for 12oz, about 1 cent per ounce.

I htink most people realize that a 2 liter is cheaper, but no one really wants to carry around something that big. They would rather pay more for the smaller bottle. At least that’s why I buy the 20 ounce.

Also, 2-liters start to go flat as soon as you open them. I’d rather have a pack of 20-oz. bottles than a 2-liter.

I used to lug around a 2 liter in my younger days. A 20 ouncer was a buck ten, a one liter was $1.25, if I remember right. During the summer, the gas station had a sale on 2 liters for 99 cents, including deposit. I did the math. I lugged around a 2 liter.

I was a freakin’ rebel, baby.

Heh. What about bottled water? Mostly, they are not in fact tapped from springs that cascade down a pristine glacial mountain face and then blessed by the virgin Buddha.

The water comes from a tap.

And here in Aus, many dickheads still think they’re ‘cool’ when they pay around $2 or $3 ($1.50-$2.30 app USD) for a 375ml bottle. But they do complain about the price of petrol.

Hahahahahahahaha. Snort.

The 20 oz sodas aren’t that expensive if you don’t pay for the convenience of a cold drink at the register. If you buy them in a 6-pack, they aren’t so costly. YOu’re paying for immediate gratification.

I agree. I buy a six pack of 20 oz. bottles for about $2.50 (USD) usually and keep them at work. They’re much cheaper than buying the equivalent amount of soda from the vending machine and I can reclose them when I don’t finish them. A 2-liter bottle would introduce more hassle into this than the savings would be worth.

Yeah the 2 liters don’t really help when you’re travelling. I just leave the 2-liter at work, we have cups and ice.

Hubby buys 12 packs of Diet Pepsi Vanilla, and keeps them in his car. He knows several convenience stores where you can buy a cup of ice for 25c. Not only a lot cheaper than buying the fountain drinks at those very same stores or buying cans out of the vending machines at the office, but those places never offer Diet Pepsi Vanilla, either, which is his favorite.

This is the reason Mountain Dew is so wonderful. It tastes just as good flat as it does fizzy (perhaps related to the fact that it’s not as fizzy as most other sodas in the first place).

I never buy those little 20 oz. bottles. If I’m buying Dew to take to work with me, I grab 1-liter bottles; if I’m buying for home I buy 2-liter bottles. I keep the 2-liter bottle right next to me at all times, and drink it straight from the bottle. The 2-liter bottle also solves the annoyance of repeatedly getting up to go to the fridge.

My name is Phase42, and I’m a Dewaholic.
