Sole Survivor

Somehow I got suckered into watching the mini-series Sole Survivor by Dean Koontz on the tv this week. It was okay I guess, but there was one obvious question that I must have either missed the answer or the movie makers were just hoping wouldn’t be noticed.

If 8462 (or whatever the hell that evil little boy’s name was) was able to enter the minds of people across the world to make them do whatever he wanted them to, why did he not enter the mind of Billy Zane’s character or Rose Tucker and have them kill child 2121? Wouldn’t that have been easier than chasing them across the country?

Did I miss something?

Because if he did do that then there wouldn’t be a story now would there?

Exactly, but did they every even try to explain something so obvious?

I went outside, made tea, pee’d, answered the phone, yelled at kids, and played with the pets all while I watched the tube so I may have missed something.

The reason he couldn’t ‘remote’ them, as it is called in the book, is because first of all, they have to be in a building or other structure, they cannot be outside.
Second, the kid must know exactly what building they are in and the general area. If he doesn’t, then he cannot enter their mind.

But the guy who was watching 2121 was outside next to the car when the little boy got into his head.

Was there any particular part in the movie that came out and explained it? If so, when? I must have missed it.

Hijack question from a Rush fan:

Is there a character named 2112, too?

Yeah, but he sucked so bad they had to kill him.

:::ouch::: Sorry Clogboy, I was only kidding.
Sorta.
