This was on TCM this past week. They mentioned about 30 minutes of footage that (presumably) Mayer wanted cut. This page gives an outline of the script, and highlights in red what happened in the cut footage.

It’s a pity that Phoro and Venus’s plot was cut…it was interesting.
It is a great movie and horrifying enough in its own documentary way. I can’t imagine what they cut because the rest of it was plenty bad enough. I really liked the black man with no arms or legs that had a family and still lit his own cigarettes. That was some serious inspiration.
