You know, the more promotional stuff/teasers about the Matrix that come out, the more confused I get about the storyline. I have some questions that have been bugging me so much I have trouble sleeping because I can’t sleep unless I know…the truth…
-Is Agent Smith a ‘rogue’ Agent? When he was talking to Morpheus, he seemed to have a very personal hatred of humankind, to the point that when when the other agents saw Smith, their reaction suggested he was acting out of line.
-Morpheous mentioned ‘The first’ apparently some individual in the matrix who became aware and was somehow able to escape. However the existance of Zion seems to complicate that- It makes more sense that Zion sent out ships to start waking people up.
-What is up with the pale guys in Matrix:Reloaded? Are they supposed to be Agent 2.0 or something?
-In the Second Rennaisance short on Animatrix, why did the robot butler kill his master? The narration seemed vague on this. I got the idea that perhaps the guy was announcing a new model robot, and his butler acted out of some sort of survival instinct.
On a more abstract note, I would figure that with Neo being ‘The one’ that him and his crew’s predicament suddenly got a whole lot dangerous. The robots have to be smart enough to know that this one particular human could threaten their very existence. Wouldn’t it seem logical that they would be concentrating on finding his body and destroying it in the real world? Or is destroying Zion a more practical goal?

Somewhere I heard mentioned that there will be a character in the next film that was from an ‘older matrix’. If this is the case, then the ‘one’ may have been from that, and started Zion himself?

I’ve heard two explainantions- one, that they are free-roaming programs that aren’t controlled by the same force that the Agents are, and the other is that they are a virus. Either seems possible.
I asked about the ghost-like guys in another thread. Apparently they’re called the Virus Twins. This name suggests that they’re AIs, but not on the same team as the Agents. At one point in the trailer, Neo is fighting an Agent and says, “Hmm, upgrades.” So I suspect that the Agents we see are some sort of version 2.0.
Agent Smith is not a rogue agent. He is probably a ranking type within its special way. He hates humanity big time and wishes to escape the matrix by destoying the source on the attacks, human resistance. The new film is anybodys guess as to his status but I believe that he is still a certified agent. He was probably out of line and this leads to some concepts. you become what you hate or the parallels of change.
Zion has existed from the begininng of the resistance and is hidden. the humans there were never plugged in or they were freed from the matrix. They were refugees. In relation to the “first” Zion can’t just wake people up. they are hardwired into the matrix. I suspect that to rouse the physical form will destoy the mind.
I think the twins are rogues with expanded powers. I have heard rumours that their actions threatens both the machines and the matrix. The humans cannot just let the matrix be destroyed. that would be genocide.
The murder trial of the robot was a pivitol event, and the victors get to write history. Survival and self awareness is a theme explored in blade runner and and some Asimov books. Robot dreams I think. 2001 is another off the top of my head. I have to go check that out before I will say for sure.
I have heard that the twins are special designed to take out Neo before they themselves go out of control. Wars are fought on many fronts. Zions location is always protected but threatened. The attack on the rogues is a little column a and a little column b
