Some News on Carnivale!

I went to the Carnival fesitival tonight at the Screen Actor’s Guild. The creator, the producer, Nick Stahl, Clancy Brown, Amy Maddigan, Tim DeCay, Adrienne Barbau(sp?), Clea Duvall, and Michael J. Anderson were there. We watched The Day That Was the Day and then there was short discussion afterwards. There wasn’t anything earth-shattering revealed (though Ed Harris was in the audience like two rows from me! I walked past him, just inches away! insert fangirl squee) Ok, so three points I thought people would be interested in.

  1. The second season will start in Jan 2005. Filming starts this May.
  2. HBO is committed to Carnivale until “The bitter end.” That means they’re not going to leave us hanging, like I know some people have feared.
  3. The DVD set for S1 will be released around Christmas.
ok, 4) Everybody was really hot! Holy shit. Amy Maddigan was particularly easy on the eyes, though Nick Stahl and Tim Decay practically gave me the vapors. Woo baby.

Um, I’m totally insane and very tired. It wasn’t the Screen Actor’s Guild, it was the Director’s Guild of America.

Okay, all I can say is…

(deep breath)

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeheehee!

(Makes jealous-face at pepperlandgirl)

So cool so cool! Now if I could just find a damn copy of episode 11…

(I’ve seen it, but my Carnivale-junkie buddies haven’t, and they -refuse- to watch episode 12 until they’ve seen 11!)

I knew about the renewal, but the ‘bitter end’ thing, while scarilly phrased, makes me feel quite good inside!

Woo! At least the show will go on. It’s too bad it won’t be for a while though. I hope people will still tune in despite the long wait between S1 and S2.

Hmm…isn’t that the same question Peter Jackson had after the release of the first LOTR film?

Actually, the fact that S1 is coming out on DVD before S2 begins should help! A lot of people might be more inclined to rent the set and watch the whole series back to back. My brother is like that with the series “24” - he has never seen it on television, but is the first to get it when it comes out on DVD.

Any rate, glad to hear the saga will continue - although I do hope they pick up the pace a bit…I have ridden earthquake fault lines that move faster than some of their scenes and plots.

Well, the creator doesn’t really care if people think it’s slow. He said he’s dealing with a 1000 page novel, and whether we like it or not, the first few hundred pages is going to be set up, background, and establishing the mood. That way when the payoffs come, they’ll have depth. He said he wants to use television in a way that he thinks it’s meant to be used. With movies you can’t get the effect of a “novel”, and you certainly can’t with “serial TV”. HBO on the other hand has given him the oppurtunity to tell a long story, to “create a myth”, and he’s doing so carefully and deliberately.

Great new, thanks Pepper!
