Not a rant, I’m much more amused than angry.
The company I work for gets data deliveries from lots of different companies. We then manipulate and combine the data from other sources to send to our third party vendors. One company we get data from(about $150,000 contract worth every month). We got the latest set, I began preliminary tests on it. They had really screwed up somwhere, with many of the entries corrupted and worthless, there was no way we were going to be able to process it. I wrote a quick awk script to gather the bad entries(a couple thousand), and sent it along with a very polite email explaining what I had thought had happened, requesting a data replacement.
The next day I recieved a very snotty email back from our contact(cc’d to my boss and his boss by the way), saying that they would be unable to replace the data. But the part I found hilarious was that he critiqued my set of bad data, saying that I hadn’t found nearly all the errors. He haughtily explained many other ways in which the data they shipped was bad that I had missed. Gee I guess you got me, don’t I feel stupid now. :rolleyes: 
Before I got around to responding, about an hour later I got another email from his boss. He apologised, and said they would immediatly begin work on correcting the data problems, and get it sent back out as soon as possible. He also gave me the name of our new contact ;), and promised to improve their QA.
