Some Questions About the Norovirus (don't need answers fast)

It’s the time of year for good cheer and painful problems in the small intestine. I have/had (not sure) been sick since December 26th - stomach cramps, diarrhea, awful indigestion, almost constant nausea - which I, at first, put down to over-indulgence over the festive period, but has been upsetting me until today. I think I’m over it (could be a norovirus?) and it wasn’t debilitating, just ever-present. I kept on eating and hydrating throughout and even through the nausea and indigestion (had a few bad nights in pain, though, when the symptoms were much worse).

Mrs JustinC started with the same symptoms on Friday, four days after me, and has barely eaten since Friday night when she threw up all of her dinner. New Year’s Eve she drank three alcoholic drinks - two beers and a shot of tequila - and only water after. She’s hydrating as much as possible and is in pretty good spirits. We were away, in another city, the last four days and have only been eating in restaurants, so I don’t think I gave this illness to her.

Questions;

  1. Was this a norovirus - it seems to have gone on to long to be classed as such?
  2. Can I get it again, from Mrs JC, or once you’ve had it are you immune to that particular strain?
  3. Was this a norovirus - the symptoms seemed less severe than to be expected?
  4. Voluntary vomiting seemed to really help over the last few days; was this the only way for my body to rid itself of the infection (rather than my immunity beating it to a bloody pulp) and should I have taken this course of action sooner?
  5. Online searches class the norovirus as not-treatable and the advice is rest, hydration, proper hand cleaning etc. Is there anything with similar symptoms that is not a viral gastroenteritis?
  6. How long after you’re better can you pass it on for?

Thanks in advance and we’ll obviously consult a doctor if symptoms continue or worsen.
