Does this sound like norovirus?

My husband and I took turns all last night throwing up in the bathtub. It was very romantic. Also body aches and chills. Turns out my mom was also sick last night - we last saw her Friday at dinner at her senior living facility. Oddly, our 16 month old is NOT sick. So we’ve embarked on a massive hand washing and sterilizing campaign because as miserable as we feel we would feel a whole lot more miserable if we also had the Incredible Vomiting Baby.

So, we didn’t all eat the same thing but we did get served by the same people. Just vomiting, no diarrhea. Does that sound like gastroenteritis of some sort?

The only other thing that occurred to me is that our son has had his flu shot and we have not yet, and we do have all these aches and pains, but vomiting isn’t really a major flu thing is it?

I Am Not A Doctor.

Yes. You got Noro. God have pity on you.

I’ve had it, as did a few around me. When we did things were coming out both exits, as it were. Many I spoke with said that was the determining factor- two exits no waiting.

(Not a Dr. They weren’t Dr’s. Just what’s commonly been heard round these parts. Your results may vary. This opinion is worth what you paid for it!)

Norovirus for us affected both ends, and during the first twelve hours, we were so weak and dizzy we seriously considered going to the hospital (fortunately we experienced those first twelve hours on separate nights).

Could be norovirus, it’s plenty common. But it’s far from the only enteric pathogen to cause those symptoms. Push fluids, watch for dehydration, and if you don’t have the diarrhea, be very, very grateful.

Yeah, stomach “flu.” Which is not actually a flu virus. The flu is a respiratory thing.

Stomach bugs can affect people in different ways. Last year my nieces had a thing where they were puking for a day, and then I got diarrhea for a day. I was at a Minute Clinic not too long after and asked the nurse about it and she said yes it was probably the same bug. Kids tend to throw up more than adults I guess.

The two or three times I’ve had a stomach bug it was both ends. So yes as the Doc says…be glad. Also be glad that it’s most likely gone by now. Get ready for The Big Disinfecting!

Trying to get my mom to notify the authorities at the old folks home - if we young and healthy people are seriously suffering there might be people who are in danger if it spread there.

Noro (among other things) can affect people unpredictably. Back in 2005 my diabetic spouse with multiple health problems weather norovirus with some unpleasant hours but largely unscathed (other than the mess, of course). Me, the healthy one? Spent a week in the hospital, lost 30 pounds in a month, eating problems for 6 months, took me about two years to really get back all the strength I lost.

I was going at both ends.

(And yes, that was official norovirus, it was confirmed via testing)

Not sure when exactly, dehydration moves from “treat at home” to “get thee to an ER” but I was told I came in to the hospital at a good time, if I had waited another 8-12 hours things could have been very bad indeed for me.

Basically, if you’re more than a day throwing up or have the runs for 2-3 go see a doctor.
