Some worrying skin formations.....

A little more than a month ago, before I got to Taiwan, my girlfriend was telling me that she noticed some moles on her leg. I didn’t believe it. I’ve paid pretty close attention to my girlfriend’s skin, and I had never seen any moles on her legs. When I got here, sure enough, she had moles of about 3mm that were fairly dark.

I was shocked. I had never seen them, and I’m almost a hundred percent sure that they were there a couple of months before when we were living in Paris.

Now, I’m noticing that I’m getting new moles on my feet. That’s not as big of a deal, because I’ve got a fair amount of moles and I’ve already had about 18 removed because skin cancer is prevalent in my family. It’s just worrying me how quickly they’ve appeared.

Is this sun-related, or is it something else? I’ve just never heard of moles appearing that quickly. For the time being, all of the moles are small enough, normally shaped, and not discolored, but I’m worried nonetheless.

This is a good dermatology site with lots of photos:

Naevi (nevi, birthmarks) | DermNet.

IANAD. You and your girlfriend should consult an MD, not a website, if you are worried about changes to nevi (moles.) You don’t want to take chances with the little buggers - they can turn nasty.

My girlfriend has consulted a doctor. The doctor didn’t seem to think it was that big of a deal, and gave her some creams. I just wanted to get a second opinion. So far, I don’t have much faith in the doctors in Taiwan.

As for me, my work permit hasn’t come in so I don’t have insurance yet to go see a doctor.
