While watching football on Sunday, I saw a brief promo for a new “Amazing Race”. I told my wife “Hey, a new Amazing Race starts this week!” Then I pulled up the DVR to make sure it was set to record, and I discovered it had started back in September! I’ve seen plenty of “Survivor” promos the last few weeks, but for some reason CBS seems to be doing a crappy job of promoting TAR. I had no idea a new season started a month ago.
And also, nobody started a thread here. What’s up with that? I’m very disappointed in y’alls.
Feel free to discuss the race so far. I’ll come back when I get caught up.
“The Amazing Race”, as @Darren_Garrison helpfully posted a link about, is reality competition show where teams of two (usually 11 teams, this season 13 teams) race around the world, completing tasks and trying to avoid elimination by not being the last team to complete a leg. It’s been on probably about as long as “Survivor”, which is another reality competition show that you may have heard of.
I have it set up in my DVR so was pleasantly surprised when the first episode showed up. I like the teams so far. I’m terrible at names in the beginning. At this point, I’m rooting for the kid and his deaf dad. Hopefully, further tasks won’t go so badly for them like the dancing with bowls on your head thing.
Yeah, me too, those were fun.
I do like that if they had to bring back the u-turn, it will be anonymous. I always hated any kind of manufactured drama and I’m glad they moved away from that stuff.
I got thru the first three episodes last night. Sorry to see the mother-daughter team get eliminated, but happy to see the son-with-deaf-dad team kicking ass (so far). The older Laotian couple really had trouble with the rice paper challenge, dropping them almost to the back after two first place finishes.
(I suck at remembering team names early on too.)
And yes, I really miss @zut 's taxi assessments in these threads.
Up until the most recent episode, I feel like this season has been kinda boring. Unlike Survivor which is thriving, I think the show is struggling with the 90 minute format. They should be doing more tasks, but I feel like instead the challenges are just longer.
So, they have a secret ballot for the U-turn. Then the woman on the team that got U-turned starts asking everyone “Did you vote to U-turn us?” Jeez lady, do you not understand the point of a secret ballot?
I thought it was hilarious when she asked the pink ladies and they said no, then in the talking head shot they said “Yeah we did. She’ll find out when she sees it on TV!”
Oh I know, it’s just that she was acting all put out because they got U-turned, but hey, it was mandatory – every team had to vote for someone. She should have known being a leading team would put a target on their backs.
It looked like only two teams got U-turn votes, the other team being the two uncooperative women who pissed off a few other teams.
I also wondered what would have happened if there was a tie in the voting.
