Somebody spoil Final Fantasy X-2 for me

I beg your little, tiny pardon… Auron is absoluely way cool and NEVER a jerk. You clearly must have been thinking of someone else.

II was the first game to feature any kind of developed characters, and as such, they’re a little weak. There’s no hero in the sense of the later games, though.

Nah, Auron was a jerk. Especially to Rikku.

On the other hand, Auron and Yuna both had cause to be a little out of sorts during her journey, so we may not have been seeing them at their best.

True, but that’s just an explaination of why he was being a jerk. He still was one, it was just somewhat understandable.

Oh, come on. Auron was SUSPICIOUS of Rikku because she wanted to stop Yuna’s Pilgrimage. And he was right, too. Mind you, I don’t blame Rikku for trying to stop the pilgrimage, considering who she’s related to, but Auron had his reasons for keeping a close eye on Rikku.

Auron is my favorite FFX character. I hated Yuna and, to a lesser extent, Rikku. Tidus was worthless as a hero.

Hey, I’m not saying he didn’t have a reason for being a jerk, or even that they don’t excuse that he’s a jerk (He’s in the ‘both’ column for for redemption), but that doesn’t change that he’s a jerk. He’s actively MEAN to Rikku at several points, condescends to everyone in the party, withholds information from Tidus that may have kept him from being a dumbass (or, hey, it may not), and is generally a pain in the ass.

Other people can spar with you over Auron, but I have to disagree with this. Tidus is relentlessly self-absorbed throughout the whole game: when he ends up in Spira, his only concern is for himself, not his dead loved ones*, he tries, over and over, to milk the "I have to kill my dad"thing for attention, and his repeated hammering of the ‘this is my story’ theme, even though it wasn’t at all and things would have gone fine without him. Even when he figures out, you know, the one thing that he figures out in the course of the whole game, his focus is on how stupid he looked, not what a jerk he was being to the people around him.

*In fairness, there doesn’t seem to be anyone alive in Zanarkand that he cares about.

::flees Anaamika::

You seem to have rather missed the point of ‘this is my story’.

Tidus in X, and Yuna in X-2 are constantly repeating it because they ARE their stories.

Both of them had been stuck in the shadows of their fathers. Their journeys are about becoming their own people, getting past being the son of Jecht and daughter of Braska.

They’re not placing themselves above the rest of their parties, they’re claiming their own place in the world.

Sin and Vegnagun are secondary to these journeys.

They are the main characters in their own stories, no longer minor characters in their father’s stories. (Yuna begins this journey in X*, but that was from Tidus’ POV, not hers. Similarly Paine has some major growth in X-2, but X-2 is from Yuna’s POV, so it’s still HER story.)

Tidus, in his cluelessness, makes some dumbass comments, but he’s never actively cruel to anyone, and his chief desire in most of his actions is to help his friends - he stands up to Auron concerning Rikku on the Thunder Plains, he tries to keep Yuna’s spirits up all through the journey, and so forth.

  • Thanks to Tidus, more than anyone else. Lulu and Wakka would have been content to let her walk the same path as Braska, since they couldn’t concieve of leaving their own pre-set paths. Rikku could have rescued her, but couldn’t help her reach for her own path. Auron’s main contribution to Yuna’s growth was bringing Tidus into her life. Tidus is a catalyst for Yuna’s growth, which is a catalyst for Lulu and Wakka’s, etc.

Hey, Auro had an excuse to be a jerk. He was dead (well, mostly dead)
