Somebody talk me out of this!

Okay, it’s been one of those week at work that makes one want to quit. Management ninnies and cost cutting make the job more difficult with each new staff meeting. The emotional drain is tremendous. Worst of all, I must spend thousands of dollars going to school to solidify my credintial. yes, I’m a teacher shhh!
Now today I sat in a resturant watching the wait staff cheerfully serving food. I remember my days of customer service. Yes, irate people and management ninnies are everywhere. But I also remember being able to sustain myself on the tips I made. I think I could do this. Less stress and friendlier people. Best of all, no college to spend money on.
FOR CRYING OUT LOUD SOMEBODY TALK ME OUT OF THIS!

Don’t do it, man.

Serving sucks. I’ve finally clawed my way out of it, and I’m going to school to be a (shh…) teacher. So, don’t do it.

I come from a line of teachers (3 generations).

I have nothing to say.

i’ll have a burger and fries please

roadwalker We need good folks like you to educate our children. To get under thier skins and impart to them the desire, nay, the need to learn more, do more, be more!
Someone to take all the beaurocratic BS we as parents cannot understand. Someone to take on the “Ninnies” our children cannot comprehend.
MOF Brian too is a teacher who get aggarvated by the seemingly unnessisay things we put our teachers through. Cramming kids for state exams, Mulitple certifications, Cut cllass funding, (And on and on and on and on) And he too gets down.

Remember why you took up teaching. Remember if you can, Parents like myself who appriate what you go through with our children. (we know they ain’t Angels, we just won’t admit it to you!) Remember the kid who’s Parents themselves may not be as educated as yourself, or the rest of the world, and the bad thinga that can happen without something to drag those children out of the mean life they live. The only thing is an inspiration and a brain. God gave then the latter. YOU provide the former!

WE know your life isn’t easy. We know you get stressed and downtrodden. (We watch Boston Public  ) We and our kids need you!

Now onto this waitress dream, or rather delusion. Now why do you want to do that to yourself? Rude coustomers?, bad tippers?, 2 am rush?, Hi theself back to the day you were a waitress going to school to be the teacher you are now. Remember what it felt like to know there is a better job out there. What it was to be on the feet all day. Arguing with the management and owners. Cowtowing for a measly 20%…

We need you! We need your wonderfull brain and your abiding heart right where it is. Improving our future.

Which job do you want to say you have when you are trying to get someone in the sack?

What kind of retirement benefits, holidays and Union protection do you get in the food service biz?

You all are so wise. TelcontarStorm, you may have saved me.
I’ll continue to tough it out.

Ah yes budget cuts. Higher education in VA is taking the largest budget cut in the history of VA. Revenue of the state is dropping the furthest ever. I can totally sympathize, as a student, Id like to get a good education. Unfortunately, there isnt much I can do about it. The school will undoubtebly survive and go onto better days (research money certainly hasnt dried up). I will undoubtebly pay more tuition. I have sadly seen many a great teacher go in for early retirement or get laid off. Its sad. It is very very sad. I wish I could just make 50 billion dollars appear out of the blue and fund the school for a lifetime. Hmm :frowning:

Its a shame its happening in CA too. VA, Mass and CA have arguably the best publically funded higher education systems in the country. Id hate to see these great institutions decline.

Darn right you will. beacause you have it in you to be the one teacher every kid remembers, every kid loves, every kid wants.

And, down the road…

When they name a school after you (as we are trying to do in Maumee for June Hershland our beloved Kindergarden teacher) you will be in tears.

When you see one of your students run for Congress, you’ll want to burst with pride.

Tough it out Teacher! YOU CAN DO IT!
