A book, CD, or whatever. Or do online retailers protect the privacy of its clients? Just curious.
Depends on the retailer. Which one are you referring to? Are you referring to physical products, or things like ebooks and downloaded music? Because I can tell you for sure if you are referring to physical products, they’ll at least have to share the shipping information.
When shopping for Depends, read the merchant’s privacy policy.
Anyone know if there is a legal penalty for violating a company’s own posted policy? A civil tort? Something the state’s attorney has to address?
Rhythmdvl - while I am not a lawyer, I would think you would have to have some basis for damages if you plan is to order Depends, and then sue them if they share that information with another provider of incontinence products, or a member of the media (assuming you are an otherwise famous person). Even then, I’d question how they could establish that the product you bought was for personal use. You could be buying them to donate to an old age home. Hell, I’ve bought numerous sex products over the course of my life that I’d rather various people like my parents not find out about, but most of those have been for joke gift purposes, bachelor parties, etc. rather than personal use.
And even my parents, friends, pastor, employer, etc. did find out, then what? I’m momentarily embarrassed assuming they are willing to embarrass themselves by bringing it up? That’s hardly damaging…
companies rent lists of names along with (sometimes) sku data, so yes it happens.
are you looking for data or wondering if your purchases are private?
