Someone's got some 'splaining to do

Ok, this is probably in the wrong forum, so move it were it you will…

Today on the radio, I heard a promo for a news story. It went something like this:

"Will Gay Priests bear the brunt of all this blah blah blah…?"
(I’m paraphrasing here)

Now I thought priests took a vow of celibacy. If that’s true, how can they have a sexual preference? Straight or Gay?

HUH?

The same way virgins can have a sexual preference.

Before I lost my virginity, I knew I wanted to have sex with women and not men. Hence, my sexual preference.

Not all churches require their clergy to be celibate, and nor does celibacy imply the absence of a sexual orientation.

I guess celibacy as mandated for Priests of the Catholic Church doesn’t necessarily require that they pretend that they have no sexual desires, rather that they honor their vow not to act on said desires ('specially with the kids).

While we’re splitting hairs, here, it’s a vow of chastity that the the 'no-nookie clause." A vow of celibacy, strictly speaking, does not mean having sex. It means not being married. Priests don’t take a vow of celibacy. They take one of chastity.
