Something about Mythbusters I find annoying

Grant is cute! Tory’s not bad but I’d have to pin him down and shave off that dumb beardlet.

I’d nail Grant faster than a steam-powered…robot…thing. Whatever, he’s adorable. Remember when he was trying to learn how to slide into a baseball base, and he asked if he couldn’t just build a robot to do it? Adorable, I tell you.

As for Jamie not being a good actor: no, no he’s not. What he is is extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and competent at what he does, and that’s why he’s on the show.

Kari may not be an engineering wizard, but she’s good at building things and interviewing people. She’s not useless. It bothers me when people dismiss her contributions pretty much just because she’s pretty.

Okay, I can see that. (Point # 2, especially) I guess I was taking it for granted because I didn’t believe that myth, and I knew the tests were performed. So ignorance fought and knocked out.

And agreed about the recaps. Without them though, the show would be half as long. Personally, I think the whole show jumped the shark by the end of season 2 (although I can’t think of any specific reason or timeframe, but whenever it was they were going away from the true myths and urban legends to more “Jamie want big boom”).

He’s cute. Short, though.

I don’t think it’s really gotten more explosion heavy in the past few seasons. Those have just been advertised a lot more. The fact that they’re going away from “true myths” is due to the fact that there’s only so many to do.

They are annoying because they are nerds and nerds tend to be annoying. It’s that immature, attention craving, overly energetic, self deprecating humor that people find abbraisive. “Hee hee hee!! Look at me blow this up!”

Discovery Channel created a similar show called Smash Labwith a less nerdy cast. Note that the guys look like frat dudes on the way home from a softball game. The girl looks like a model, not a goofy, tomboyish “Tits McGee”

I don’t like Smash Lab all that much though. It looks too contrived and tries too hard to be cool. “Uhhh…dude, the shear forces on that cross section are…like…way too high or something.” Mythbusters just seems like a bunch of nerds having a good time blowing stuff up and thus seems more “real” and fun.

If they could get Adam to cut down on crappy foreign accents, the show would improve significantly.

I’d agree with you if the show still focused entirely on Adam and Jamie. The other three sort of scream “let’s get some new blood!” to me and, frankly, don’t even seem that nerdy. (I’ve hung around nerdy people; I knew nerdy people; nerdy people were friends of mine. These guys aren’t really nerdy.) I’ve never seen Smash Lab, though; maybe its hosts are blatant enough eye candy to make the three from Mythbusters seem acceptable by comparison.

They’re nerdy enough to have been working for Jamie before the show (except for Grant). Kari actually helps out on the very first show, way before she becomes a mythbuster.

I saw that picture. I do not believe that it was him.

Are you saying that in the sense of “I decline to believe that was him” or “I have reason to believe that it was not him”

It was a pretty good likeness [of his face] so was it a chop?

edit: I also remember hearing that he’d apologised for it and that his Mythbuster colleagues had been really disappointed in him.

Tory is “ick”? Without the beardlet, he vaguely resembles George Clooney, so I thought women would go for that. Hmm.

Anyone else read the bio for the Smash Lab chick?

What a freakin’ catch!

She also wants World Peace, likes long walks on the beach, likes puppies and doen’t like mean people.:rolleyes:

Yep, just another tv bimbo with a mechanical engineering degree from Washington University. Geez, I’m so sick of them!

For anyone else who’s not, here’s more of her.

Apologies for the hijack

That’s not really true. Tory is pretty much a senior builder over there, and he has built some pretty elaborate devices. In earlier episodes, long before he became a regular cast member, Tory was assigned to build various contraptions for Adam and Jamie. He’s also a highly experienced model maker who has worked on a variety of films.

As for Kari, she clearly doesn’t have Tory’s handyman skills or Grant’s engineering expertise. However, she did assist Tory with some of the build work in earlier episodes – again, long before Mythbusters began to capitalize on her star power. So she does have some craftsmanship expertise, even though she’s not at the level of her fellow castmates.

Based on comments that I’ve read on the 'net, a lot of women do seem to think he’s kinda hunky. I also asked some of my female friends which mythbusting guy they preferred, and most of them singled out Tory.

This is my only complaint about the show. he’s not anywhere near as good at those as he seems to think. And he seems to do them in a harsh throaty way, too.

One of my favourite developments is the narrator starting to have a real laugh along with everyone.

The show was developed by an Australian company, “Beyond”, and interestingly the narrator actually lives here (in Sydney) so I do wonder if he has ever visited M5.

You know what this show needs? Dancers.

Robot dancers?
