Something messed up about Mr. Lisa Goes to Washington? ---- Simpsons

Does anyone else feel this episode does not fit in with the rest of the series? This episode shows a strong faith in the government. Up until the final third of the episode it fits in perfect with the whole Simpsons’ attitude. But the end is just off. Especially with lines like President Bush saying that his action will make all 250 million of his bosses happy. There is nothing ironic about the ending of this episode; it just shows pure faith in the government.

Is it that the Simpsons writers really believe in their hearts that the government will instantly and efficiently spring into action the second they hear a little girl has become dillusioned about politics, thoroughly cleaning house (and refusing to vote themselves a pay increase) in less than a day …

… or that maybe you missed the joke in the last act?

Holy cow some people have way too much time on their hands

I think it was ironic; anyone who believes that the government will jump to remedy the objections of the people is seriously deluded.

“A little girl has just lost her faith in deomcracy!”

“GOOD LORD!”

Don’t have a holy cow, man!

I think anyone posting to this board by definition has too much time on their hands.

I have exactly the right amount of time.

Thanks for pointing that out! (Goes to the sink to wash time off of hands)

It does however give us information on which state the Simpsons live in:

Maybe a sarcasm detector WOULD be a useful invention.

Saaay, can I get one of those as an optional accessory on a 1920’s style Death Ray?

I know, I know, it’s been done to death ray, but I just had to do it.

In that episode, I thought Nelson’s speech was by far the best, though the one about “The American nonvoter” also cracked me up.

Ok, I give up. Who started the 1920s death ray cliche?
