Something really cool I learned from a student today!

Ah, the things I learn from my students. Today, a girl in my class was looking through a book about the Presidents and their times. She discovered that Thomas Jefferson died on July 4th.

The man who wrote the Declaration of Independance died on Independance Day.

Not only that, but John Adams died a few hours later the same day - July 4, 1826, 50 years to the day after they signed the Declaration.

Yeah, and supposedly John Adams’ last words were “Thomas Jefferson lives”. Kinda ironic, if you ask me.

Oh, and James Monroe died exactly five years later, on July 4, 1831.

As far as I know, those are the only three Presidents to die on Independence Day.

Isn’t Presidential trivia fun?
