I was looking for more info on a brand of bananas I wasn’t familiar with* and found their website.
The header image for their page is an apparently naked woman who seems to be very excited to be caressing some large bananas. So, am I reading too much symbolism into it or do they indeed know damn well what they are doing with their marketing material?
(*Looking into it because a cousin of mine is out of work and picked up some donations at a food bank. They gave him two full 40 pound boxes of bananas, and apparently were giving that many to everyone. Because like almost everybody he lacks the ability to quickly use 80 pounds of bananas before they go bad, he gave one box to his sister and she gave half a box to me. Now I have a freezer full of bananas.)
Crazy and wasteful; a decent percentage of the recipients are just going to throw out most of that. (I, for one, didn’t even know you could freeze bananas. I’ve only ever had them fresh.)
BTW, I’m with you; never heard of the Derby brand of bananas until you mentioned it.
My gf’s lunch most days is a smoothie. A frozen banana, oat milk, yogurt, bran, etc.
The grocery store has a display with very ripe bananas. As many as you can fit into a bag they supply for a buck, or something like. She buys them every week.
It’s a strange website for sure. If you scroll down far enough you will see recipes that include bananas. Among the standard ones such as banana bread and smoothie recipes, they have a recipe for banana potato salad! I have to admit, I’m intrigued.
Don’t turnips at least keep for a while? Aside from freezing them, how else can a single person or small family even consume that much? And even freezing them is a problem if you don’t have a large enough freezer.
My Dad used to watch some PBS(?) show re beginning French. It was hosted by a tween girl and boy. And a pineapple - l’ anana (pronounced LAH na na, sorta. I’m sure the spelling is wrong, too. I took German, dammit!) One day, they had a guest star - l’ banana (BAH na na, kinda). Surreal, to say the least.
