sometimes I hate Norther Ireland...grumble

Well, I’m up at my folks, organising for the wedding, and trying to field phonecalls from guests who are coming up from Dublin and are worried about riots in Belfast.

It’s all calmed down a bit now, but what exactly am I supposed to say?
“Please come to the wedding, we can almost certainly guarantee your safety”?
400 live rounds were fired at the police at the weekend.

One of my sister’s teenage friends had masked men break down her back door and turn her kitchen into a petrol bomb factory. Meanwhile her poor mother was trying to get home and couldn’t because there were road blocks.

In some areas men were knocking on door and asking if you had fully comprehensive car insurance…if you did you car was stolen and burnt out to form a barricade.

And all because some stupid men weren’t allowed to walk down a road.
Sometimes I hate this place.

I have been reading about these riots. I really enjoyed my short visit to Belfast last January and hope to return there someday soon.

That is a very scary situation; I heard about a bus being hijacked and the passengers robbed, but breaking into peoples house and stealing their cars after asking about insurance…I can’t imagine.

Chances are your wedding will be fine, but i can see whare it will be hard convincing people that it is safe. Good luck.

Oh my goodness irishgirl …and I thought I had trouble planning my wedding! Sorry to hear what you’re going through. That sounds more than a little nightmarish…I’m sure when all is said and done everyone will remember a beautiful day with you walking down the aisle looking lovely! (Hope you’ll be posting pictures  ) Good luck!

Good luck, irishgirl!! (ádh mór ort!)
