Guess who’s going to Mars? Daffy Duck and Marvin the Martian! Considering how many space themed cartoons Warner Bros. cranked out when Chuck Jones was working there, it’s about time NASA decided to slap 'em on a mission patch.
And now this planet is hereby claimed for the Earth in the name of DUCK DODGERS IN THE 24 1/2TH CENTURY!!!
B-b-b-b-big deal.
[sub](I think that is cool! were can one get those patches?)[/sub]
I WANT THAT PATCH!!!
I WANT THOSE PATCHES!!!
Tuck, totally and insanely cool. The little black duck is second only to Bugs as one of my lifetime heros. Any fowl with a speech impediment that can work and compete with Bugs is one plucky little fowl.
I owe you. Fortunately, my last email contained an offer that completely transcends the cost of those patches. You and that CAD friend of yours.
Harumph!!!
Did I mention that Mel Blanc is one of my most revered heroes, ever?!?
Oh, okay. Please carry on.
Not only are they going to Mars but they’re going to be tarring in their own TV show on Cartoon Network next month. I wonder if there’s a connection?
I think we should just blow Mars up. It obstructs my view of Jupiter.
<hijack>
Zenster, I found a CD recently of Mel Blanc radio work from I guess the 40’s and 50’s, including a couple of episodes of his own serial. Fantastic stuff, including cameos from Bugs, etc
<hijack>
And back on topic, I want those badges too!
Wouldn’t it be cool if actual aliens caught a glimpse of the patches and thought WE looked like cartoon characters? They’d probably follow the path back to Earth, threaten us with their Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulators, and tell us they’re going to blow the planet up because Earth blocks their view of Venus.
Woe is us! Where’s a heroic, cross-dressing rabbit when you need one?
Seriously neat. I love it when pop-culture intrudes on important scientific/military advancement. It is so cool that these little fellas are such a big part of our culture!
How totally cool!
I’ve always preferred Bugs over Mickey.
Henry Spencer Share the title and particulars.
Way cool, but I just want to know where the hell the DVD box sets of Chuck Jones’ classic Warner cartoons are? Disney gets a lot of (justifiable) flack for how they handle DVD releases (get it now or it’s gone!), but Warner could probably make a bunch off of a super-duper box set of the classic Chuck Jones stuff and are just sitting on it. I would be fighting for first place in line for a set with cartoons such as “Duck Amuck”, “One Froggy Evening”, “What’s Opera Doc?”, “Rabbit of Seville”, etc., etc.
Semi-hijack into Cafe Societyism…
If you ever get a chance to see the show Bugs Bunny on Broadway, GO! It includes many of the best Chuck Jones pieces, including most of the ones listed by jeevmon and a Coyote / Road Runner episode.
And it’s normally done with a full orchestra, too.
Life doesn’t get any better than: A pleasant summer evening, an open-air theater, some good company, chocolate, opera music, and the finest works of Messers. Jones and Blanc.
Back to MPSIMSisms… I’d love a box set of the entire Coyote / Road Runner cartoons. Especially if it includes “Soup or Sonic,” one of the last entries in the series.
Muhahahaha!!!
I am now the proud owner of a ROVER-A Patch (Marvin). Heard about these patches from a friend at JPL a while back but forgot about them. quick search on e-bay and badda-bing. I have one coming across the ocean to my hot litlle hands. a touch of envy Zenster ??? there are a few left if you want to snach them up. Good luck
…let’s just make sure the pad team for MER-B (Duck Dodgers) doesn’t leave the thily thing in reverse, on launch day…
Mr Garabaldi’s obsession starts to make more sense now.
Oooooh, goody! I’m going to Mars, K-9! Isn’t that delightful?
I want those patches, too. Hmmmm. E-bay, at time of typing, says $14.95 for Daffy and $20 for Marvin.
::struggling with avarice::
Geez, shouldn’t NASA be marketing them, pocketing the profits and helping to fund their projects? I’d rather give them the dough.
