Son of Sam a media pundit? Fuck that, Fox News.

Diogenes the Cynic- Well, with the rage against O’Reilly, and now this, I’m just thinking you need a warm bath…Milk & cookies…The snuggle bear…

Yes, I can always turn off the news, and trust me, I do. I watch it just to get the weather report to figure out how warmly I have to dress for the day. However, the news media is not elected, so “voting” with my remote control has limited returns. . .

What’s frustrating about putting Berkowitz on the news is that it gives both him and the sniper what they want.

Berkowitz did a lot of what he did because he wanted notoriety. He also sent taunting letters to the police, and spun a lot of bullshit in order to create more media attention after he was caught. E.G.: the whole “My dog, possessed by Satan, told me to do it” shtick, which he later admitted to criminalists was a load of crap.

Berk. is little more than the asshole kid in elementary school who’d knock over someone’s science project just 'cause it’d get him attention.

Also, by bringing him into the spotlight again, the sniper himself is also getting an added level of notoriety: “Hey! I’m so badass they’re talking to the Son Of Sam about me!” :rolleyes

Besides which, asking Berk. about the sniper is like asking someone with MS to diagnose someone else’s cancer. There is no basis in assuming that he’s got a deeper insight into the sniper than anyone else, and he certainly has no more information than any of the profilers who are involved.

So I have to agree that Berk. should be left to rot in prison. Vindictiveness aside, there’s really no reason to stroke him off with media attention, especially since that attention was a prime motivation for him in the first place.

And besides, given what the SOB has done, what’s so fucking wrong with a little vindictiveness anyway? You (general, plural “you”) call it unhealthy, I call it “normal.”

“Alone, unloved, and unmourned” sounds about right to me.

SPIT:

My “O’Reilly rage” has been building up for years, I just had to vent it. I feel better now.

I’ll take yor “snuggle bear” prescription under advisement.

FOX is a fuckin bottom feeder. They’ve gone so far over the top with their hyped, overmarketed, pop-culture-media crapola product that I can’t stand to even go there anymore. This Son of Sam thing surprises me not one bit. They appear to have a group of internal marketing people who are the best at deciding to do exactly the WRONG thing, nearly all the time.

Soulless pricks who eat their babies for breakfast, and then burp out loud for a laugh.

Of course, the current splintered-stick-up-by-ass with FOX is their insistence to wring the last possible marketing opportunity out of the GODDAMN WORLD SERIES. NOTHING is sacred to these shitheads. Has anyone noticed how long the in-between inning breaks are? And to ice the shit-cake, when their camera aims at home plate when a batter is up, they shove a HUGE advertisement of one of their insipid, drool-bucket “shows” there right next to the batter on this virtual ad board. So, EVERY batter gets to stand next to a FUCKING COMMERCIAL FROM FOX on some moronic show on their network.

Next, they’ll do away with that, and simply insert another entire broadcast inside that ad box, complete with ITS own commercials. Maybe THEN we could watch an in-depth, exclusive interview with that Berkowitz turd, RIGHT NEXT TO BARRY BONDS SWINGING FOR THE FENCES! Hopefully there will be running banners below both the baseball game screen, and the bottom of the “interview of a mass murderer” thing. Maybe some animated ads floating across the screen (ala’ Yahoo) would complete the picture - like a guy running after someone with an ax waving in the air, yelling “YA YA YA YA YA YA YA!”

FOX, you are fuuuucks.

Didn’t I see a promo for this during “A Manson Family Christmas”?

vanilla is a convicted felon???

It’s a shame they roasted John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy. Fox could have put together a great competitor for Crossfire.

I wouldn’t get all bent out of shape about it, until she shared further details. (If in fact, she even cares to)

You would be surprised at what little things can make you a “felon”.

DtC- You might want to toss my “Snuggles” suggestion…He could end up making things worse.

Roger Ailes,

You sir are an ASSHAT.

There are any number of other people you could have interviewed, people who may have actually brought some new insight to this horrible story.

But that wouldn’t be the FOX NEWS: We report, you decide/ Your source for quality journalism. way, would it.

I can just picture Berkowitz sitting in his cell J.Oing at the thought of his being on Tv and in the public eye again.

Vile.

Scum.

Just watched Jimmy Breslin, the New York reporter with whom David Berkowitz corresponded during his killing spree, weigh in on the sniper.

OK. I can understand the parallels between this situation and the Son of Sam killings. I see where they might be similar. A joy-killer (maybe) offing random people in a big city with a firearm. Yeah, I can understand the parallels.

This doesn’t mean that D. Berkowitz is in any way qualified (or entitled) to give a grotesquely feel-good opinion on it. Rot already, you bastard! We’ll know you’re dead when the guards start to smell you. Then we’ll clean up your mess for the last time.

And it sure as FUCK doesn’t mean that the moron reporter is in any way qualified to weigh in on it “One of the most vital voices of our generation” my ass. Well, he might have been at one time, but his mealy-mouthed ramblings during this interview were more like the mutterings of the town idiot. He intimated that the police had something to hide, and that they had “NO REASON” not to release the full, unedited details of the sniper’s communiques to the public. I don’t guess it ever occurred to him that the police might need to use the material to differentiate between crank calls, random nutcases, and false claims of responsibility and the real thing. He then took leave of his sanity altogether and urged people not to cooperate with the police AT ALL, saying that they had nothing, and that they had no hope of catching the sniper.

Got any better ideas, Breslin? I have one: medication.

Not much to add after the one-two punch of booka and MLC except to pass along a link describing how Fox attracted Berkowitz to their organization.

from the Washington Post

How many people who book guests on talk shows were asked by their boss today, “Why didn’t you think of that?”

Well, there’s several Dopers who work in the media, and I’m sure that they’ll be posting that information here shortly. (And sadly, I have no doubt that that question is indeed being asked at this moment.)

I never said he should be allowed out of prison or that he could contribute anything to any news story, just that (and sorry for the hi jack) people think that when someone kills, God cannot forgive them. A Manson family member is a christian also, not that that means he should ever be allowed out of jail or hailed for that matter.

Guin, yes, 11 years ago, my former husband was in county jail.
He ordered me to bring him marijuana and I did.
It was my first and last offense (I got probation).
But it wsa a felony.
I don’t feel like a felon, don’t look like one, it was like a mistake a made long ago.
People preconceive their ideas about others by what they are called . Am I am an ex-felon.
I served 4 days (cause it was a holiday weekend) otherwise i would’ve been released right away.:frowning:

vanilla, I re-read my last post and realized that it might seem like I was implying that Berk. leaving prison was somehow on the table, or that you were implying he should be freed. It was poor wording on my part. As I was writing my post, the last part of Ogre’s “let him rot in prison” post was on my screen, and I was merely adding my spin to that.

The forgiveness debate is a classic one, and there’s a lot more meat to discuss when the subject is a serial killer. I’m tempted to start one in GD, particularly on the heels of the fantastic writing by Lib and Poly on the subject of Christian love in the H4E threads. . . Hrmmm. . .

Ogre, on NPR last night they mentioned that the police were being tightlipped about the communiqués because the sniper said he’d increase his killings if more than a certain few details were revealed. . . (I needed to hear the traffic report!)

Sorry, not buying it.

Maybe that’s wrong of me. But IMO, the alleged conversion to Christ by lifers in prison should be looked upon with extreme skepticism. It should be assumed to be a ploy to gain favor and help getting his/her sentence reduced. Doubly so with serial killers.

And I cannot put you in the same boat as someone who killed for the thrill and fun of it.

The obviousness of this reporter’s desire to be a real-life Agent Starling with her own Hannibal Lecter pushes the situation from insulting to purely farcical. I have to wonder, does she go home and dress up in Wonder Woman underoos so she can battle crime in her Invisible Jet?

It is a good debate subject, but-if its a ploy to get early released, its never worked, has it?

A real “Christian” does not continue to deny his own culpability as Berkowitz has.
