In the 60’s or 70’s, there was a British tv show called “the protectors”. It starred Robert Vaughn and it was a spy or detective show… now, at the end of it there was a song and the singer sounded like Tom Jones, and the last line was something like “some of us are gonna try” Does anyone know anything about it?
I put “The Protectors Robert Vaughn song” into Google and got a couple sites, one of which stated that the “title” song (as opposed to end credits song, perhaps) was
“In The Avenues and Alleyways” by Tony Christie. It stated that the song entered the UK pop charts in 1973.
Is this perhaps the song, or did it have separated opening and closing credits songs? I was too lazy to look further.
The second site on the page using the above keywords gives a site called TV Themes wherein you can download the audio of it. Also has the great Barnaby Jones theme music as well.

Gad, what brilliance! Nobility is in more than your name! Thanks a ton, Sir Rhosis!
Althoug…now i’m starting to panic…still downloading…so i can’t still say for sure that it is the correct one. specifically, i was looking for the closing credit song…i’ll get back whin i can download and verify!
thanks!
harry,
If it’s not the song you’re looking for, just try Google, or your favorite search engine, as I did, perhaps narrowing the phrases to:
The Protectors Robert Vaughn Credits song
or
Theme Music The Protectors Robert Vaughn
Or something like that. I discovered that you definitey need Robert Vaughn in there to narrow it down to the television show.
Glad to help. When I first started here, many people showed me the proper way to make good Google searchs.

Long-standing Gerry Anderson fan checking in - Sir Rhosis is dead on. “Avenues and Alleyways” is the closing song; the opening titles get an instrumental version (actually, just a couple of phrases, repeated rather a lot).
Sigh. “The Protectors”. Great show. I loved the way Robert Vaughn made it totally clear that Harry Rule was not Napoleon Solo, by, er, combing his hair the other way, and not talking into his pen, and, er, that’s it… And a reliable solid-cardboard performance from Tony Anholt as well, what more could you ask for?
Steve,
What more could you ask for?
Well, though I’ve never seen the show, I’m familiar with her and some of her other work. . .
I ask for Nyree Dawn Porter!
