Song in tonight's (11 Dec) "Grey's Anatomy"

During the last few minutes of tonight’s show, “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear” played in the background. Female vocal, acoutstic guitar, slightly reworked melody line, apparently in a minor key. Who was singing that? (I really like her version.)

Arrgh! Title should say “song,” not “son.” Mods cordially invited to fix.

I wish I could answer this for you. I’ve been trying to figure it out since I heard it. Her voice was very familiar but I can’t place it.

I don’t know the answer. I just wanted you to know that I was fully prepared to watch Gray’s Anatomy tonight, even though I don’t like it so much (too implausable for me), just to support your son.

You’re welcome.

I’m not sure either. I know the song you speak of though.

I missed scene’s for next week - can anyone fill me in?

I haven’t seen the episode yet – watched the Survivor finale and taped it – but there’s a blogger who usually has all the music identified by Monday. I’ll check there tomorrow and come back and let you know if they’ve figured it out.

Is it the Sixpence None The Richer version from the “Maybe This Christmas Too” compilation?

It’s Catie Curtis, with Rose Polenzani.

You can hear the song on her website, although it looks as though it’s not available on CD yet.

Here’s a direct link to the .mp3, in case the flash player doesn’t work for you.

More Rose Polenzani here. Wow, she’s melancholy.

Done.

I didn’t see the show, but the version that Larry Mudd linked to, is the same version I’ve always heard. Not in a minor key or anything.

Thanks, Larry, that’s a nice rendition, but definitely not what I heard last night. The voice, guitar, and melody don’t sound the same to me; and very specifically I remember the line “To hear the angels sing” being repeated at the close of the song.

Ah, pardon me. She did “Lo How a Rose Ere Blooming” for that episode and I got it confuzzled.

Now I wish I had taped the episode.

huh?

The thread was originally titled Son in tonight’s (11 Dec) “Grey’s Anatomy”.

Until you read the OP, the impression was that a Doper’s offspring had a part in the episode.

They post music listings on the ABC site here:
http://abc.go.com/primetime/greysanatomy/music/season2/music11.html
but since the episodes are just numbered, not dated, I’m not sure if they have yesterday’s up yet.

ah…last night was episode #12, so it’s not listed yet

No one knows? We just watched the ep and the song was great.

Episode 12 is finally up on the link provided by Achren (thank you for that), and it lists Sixpence None the Richer. Looks like mrunlucky got lucky – or knew what he was talking about.

Thanks all for your help.
