Song parody by Siskel & Ebert on THE CRITIC

What song is being parodied here at 18:07-19:02 on THE CRITIC: Siskel & Ebert & Jay & Alice?

The Shadow of Your Smile, I think.

That is very close. I thought tho that it was parodying a real duet. Still, those songs are remarkably similar.

It’s not The Shadow of Your Smile. It’s something from the '70s, I think, but it’s hovering out there just at the edge of sensor range.

Wow, I’m surprised full episodes of The Critic are on Youtube. 20th Century Fox is usually one of the most stringent in protecting its copyrights…just try and find a Simpsons clip on Youtube that isn’t in a foreign language, or “mirror-imaged.”

I think this is it. You have to listen a bit before you get to the part they were parodying (starts at 1:25):

Another version, apparently under a different title:

Duke Phillips is a parody of Ted Turner.

Oh, THAT’s a given!

It just seems that the whole “The way you said, A; the way you said B; the way you said Goodbye” was used in a real song- I agree that the song has to be related to the two posted.

The Critic was great in its initial run.

I seem to remember it being sung as a duet. From some movie musical maybe?
